    Default LD200 GEAR BOX newbie mistake

    I had to split the car to solve some other issues and when I put the car back together. I flipped two bolts on the gearbox linkage. This prevented the linkage from moving forward enough as it hit the upper suspension mount.

    It seems this locked up the gearbox and would cause the car to stall. It took several attempts to find this issue. There was 10 or so stalls like the video shows. I kept increasing RPM as this was the first time the car drove even 12inches! I had no idea how it should move off the line.

    There is some metal on the magnet, but not bad. (see the drop box link) The gearbox shifted easily on track.

    Do I need to inspect inside or is this acceptable amounts of metal?

    you just need to develop sensitivity to these clutches. If it's a 5.5", and you have two sets of mounting holes in the flywheel, ditch that thing for a 7.25 until you get a feel for it.

    That doesn’t seem that bad as far as metal on the magnet. But that said is that after you ran the car for a session or a weekend or from an oil change? I would check it after a race weekend. One thing you can do to check the box over, at the top where you can fill fluids there is a large nut. I would peak in there with a flash light. Check the teeth on the ring and pinion. If you don’t see any pitting or chunks from any of the teeth then you should be ok. Not knowing whose car that was or how long it’s been since a gearbox rebuild this is your best bet for a quick inspection.

    I'd look inside anyway. It's such a simple gearbox, very easy to take apart and put back together. It is designed with relatively quick gear changes in mind. You'll want to learn how regardless as changing gear ratios is important. Just make sure you have the gear stacking tool, (https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pr...asp?RecID=7431) I have no idea how it would be reassembled without that thing haha. The only real gotcha is there are a couple spacers that can be swapped where it will seem like it went back together properly when you stick the carrier back on. (62 and 52 on the diagram)

    Good advice above! Whenever I take the carrier off, I do my best to leave #62 on the pinion shaft period. As in, it never comes out of the box, and if it does by accident (because its stuck to the gear with lube) it goes back in immediately.

    I designed a 3D printed parts sorter and assembly tool for the LD that makes keeping these things straight pretty easy.

    That amount of metal was from all of my fails trying to drive the car in a parking lot. Then 8min of on track driving.
    Yes, I'm changing the oil and cleaning the magnet.

    I looked at the ring and pinion previously when I opened the box and they looked new. I don't think they would be damaged from this.
    It seems the damage could have affected the dog rings.

    The clutch is 7.25"

    I can take the rear cover off easily, never went in deeper than that. Do I need to go deeper to inspect? If so can I just remove the cover or do I need to remove all of the parts?
