Does this require an external water pump?
What is the overall height of the oil tank? How much oil does the tank hold? Is the pump in good working condition? No debris through? IE - not off a blown engine or trans? Did you switch to wet sump?
Thanks
Dan
I don't think so. My setup did have an external electric pump, but the mechanical pump should have been able to fit and work with this.
The oil tank is 15" tall and roughly 6" diameter. According to my math that should hold 7ish quarts absolutely full. The pic is from before I opened it up and cleaned it.
The pump does work. There was a bearing failure on the engine and there was debris in the pan and a little in the tank. All the debris has been cleared out and everything still is in good working condition. I verified the pump works on the bench.
The shop that rebuilt my engine guessed that somehow it experienced a low pressure situation. I don't have an engine data system (yet) to verify their guess. I still run the bike dash and an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, and they still showed pressure when the failure was apparent after an autocross run. My honest guess is I didn't have near enough oil in the system, which they said could have been the issue that lead to the bearing failure.
Since I just autocross my car in BMod, I did switch to a Rilltech baffled pan for a bit of weight savings and simplicity.

When you cleaned/tore the pump down did any of the rotors or side walls show dings or damage from metal running through them? These pumps are sensitive to scratches especially in the side walls. Do you have pictures of the pump torn down?
Dan
Thanks, I will look for the pictures posted. Just want to make sure the pump does not need to be rebuilt.

FWIW, this looks virtually identical to my BRD drysumps, and they use stock mechanical water pump, no issues there...
