    Default Interesting VD

saw this on the LA FB marketplace. Very nice 93VD that has been somewhat modified. There's a number after the model year that makes me think there were factory mods (or maybe done by Primus?). The rear bodywork is well done - would have been a nice addition to the car but no doubt too wide. Has anyone seen this car before or know anything about it? Maybe a movie or show car of some kind?

The numbers after the model are "2LTR". My 94/95 said that too.

Would be interesting to see more of the engine since it looks like it might be injected.....

Chassis tag says 1992, which seems about right. Definitely not a '96. Definitely not FC legal.

I remember seeing that car a few years ago with an all-blue paint job, I'm pretty sure the Mesamaui guy on here was selling it. It has 200+hp Pinto and numerous other things making it illegal for FC.

Never knew Maui to have a formula car. I'll chat him up about it. He had two early S2s with big motors in them set up like a 2ltr world championship car - another guy that runs with us here in VARA - the guy that built Pahrump - has one as well - big motor, big tires. Maui also had a GT3 2ltr Capri and now he's into Normas, on his 3rd one which he says is a keeper.

    But I digress...

Interesting that my chassis tag doesn't have the "2ltr" designation and I misread the year I guess.

Chatted up the seller about the challenges of selling this, especially in the $30K region regardless of condition. Told him about logbooks and homologation papers, the legality issues and difficulties even track-daying it, but haven't heard back. Evidently the owner is a movie guy/record producer.

You should walk him through how to use a screwdriver so he can take the engine cover off.

You are probably correct. The bike carbs look like throttle bodies....

Maybe it has a setup from Danst in this recently revived thread....

That guy sells a lot of strange stuff out of his shop in Simi - FRs, a VD S2 with a bike motor, etc. He should be well known in VARA circles but I don't think I've ever seen him around the track, at least in the last 15 years.

I don't know why he goobers up decent cars. perhaps he's going for that guy that will just buy it and pay him to take it up to Willlow on a practice day and drive around. I figure that car will need about 10K to get put back to FC legal trim.

He spams racecar auctions on BAT, touting his prep shop. As you say, he seems to have a line in modifying perfectly decent cars.

When I was selling my 94/95VD-FC a few years back, he wanted to give me a check for like $500 and take the car off the market for an offer IIR under $10k. Some excuse as to why he couldn't by it now.

I said no thank-you. Cash will be fine when you are ready at the asking price. I think he moved on - and so did I !
