Default 1985 Swift DB3 Formula Continental For Sale

This 1985 Swift DB3 Formula Continental is thought to have originally raced in the Canadian Export A Pro Series – it is a very quick, well-sorted car that has been extensively restored and upgraded on a cost-no-object basis. It has competed successfully in VARA and SCCA and is currently legal in both series. And it is quite fast – it has clocked a 1:21.3 lap at Willow Springs (and that was before the new engine and shocks).

The Pinto 2 liter engine was rebuilt by Pick’s Racing Engines in January of 2021 and has only one weekend on it. It develops 155 hp on the dyno and is fully SCCA legal. It is fed by an Ivey-built Weber carburetor and has a Burton aluminum valve cover. It is fitted with a Fast Forward oil pump. The clutch was also replaced at the time of the engine rebuild.

The gearbox and differential have both been rebuilt by Williams Racing Developments, and the diff is the latest lightweight type.

The radiator has been replaced, the fuel cell has been refoamed, the battery has been replaced, the master cylinder assembly has been replaced, the Willans belts are good until 2025, and the Stack tachometer is also new. The car is also equipped with adjustable brake bias in the cockpit.

The rear uprights are brand new from Fast Forward. The shocks are custom Ohlins units built for this car by Doug Brenner (they transformed the handling, highly recommended) – they have one weekend on them. The original Fox shocks will be included with the sale at the asking price. Wheels are Jongbloed magnesium center 3 piece, and there are two sets plus spare parts.

The car is also fitted with a lifetime no-subscription transponder.

Bodywork was stripped and panel fit corrected in December of 2020, and the car was painted at that time. It shows exceptionally well for an old racecar.

New price is $23,450 – spares included at the asking price are listed below. It must be one of the nicest DB3s in existence.

Trade for interesting motorcycle (MV Agusta, Ducati, etc.) or high-end watch considered.

The car is located in Fallbrook, CA.

    Spares:
    Nose and front wing assembly
    Spare front wing elements
    Canada-spec roll hoop cover
    Tail section
    Rear wing assembly
    Used radiator
    2 non-stock front A-arms
    2 repairable rear rockers
    1 complete rear upright
    1 track rod
    1 used clutch assembly
    Header heat shield
    Original Fox shocks (4)
    7 Gearsets
    Second set of wheels
    Wheel parts

Bump to the top - will consider interesting trades for motorcycles, watches. This Swift is a lovely drive.

do you have old logbooks or know the previous owner history of this car? Buddy of mine has been looking for a DB3 his dad (who recently passed) owned and raced on the west coast in the 90s
Awww, come on guys, it's so simple. Maybe you need a refresher course. Hey! It's all ball bearings nowadays.

I don't have any old logbooks or history on the car, unfortunately. What I do know is the guy I bought it from found it stored in a machine shop in Santa Ana where it had been for a long time. And we do know that it raced in the Canadian Pro 2000 series in the late 80's, judging from some of the details on the car. Other than that it's anyone's guess - since there were only 12 built in 1985 perhaps this is the one your friend is looking for?
