    For Sale 1982 Royale RP-31 + Extras $9,995

    Rich in history, This Royale RP-31 is for sale with five sets of SCCA logbooks dating back to April 2, 1982, along with spares. Priced To Sell - $9,995. Can include trailer at no extra cost if buyer is interested.

    Last raced at the Lime Rock Historic Festival 42 (August 30, 2024 - September 2, 2024).


    Since I've owned it, the car has participated in events with the VRG/Formula Ford Challenge Series as well as SCCA regional races.

    Yes extremely so. More than any other FF I've been around and they are great cars on their own right. I'm 6'6 with a 36in inseam if thats any indication. I've been racing #37 for a year and have loved every minute of it. Parts are available through Alan Cornock in the UK who is great to work with.

    I LOVE how you did pic #3. I don't know "how" you did it, but it almost makes the car look like a scale model.

    GLWTS. A number of us were discussing this very model a couple of weeks back - beautiful looking cars in my view

    Typically, by selecting a wide aperture (e.g. f2.8), which reduces depth of field, to isolate the subject from the background.

    Normally the inboard/outboard would classify this as "club ford", but does the "post-1981" date force it up against modern rocker cars?

    As ever, the answer is, "It depends."

    In SCCA, CF is not a National (Majors? Runoffs? Super Tour? It all gets so confusing.) class. Since it is a Regional class, each Region or group of Regions can define CF as they please.

    For example, the NEDiv CF rule specifies pre-1984 cars (i.e. pre-DB-1). Cars must have at least one end outboard, and cannot be backdated (i.e. converted from non-CF spec to CF spec). NEDiv permits Honda engines in CF.

    Other Regions or sanctioning bodies can and do have their own variations on the rule.

    And, of course, tires are a whole 'nother thing. Typically, there is a spec tire, usually a hard slick and/or a treaded tire. But, again, sanctioning body-specific.

    Speaking for the vintage groups where most of these run now, the RP31 qualifies as a "Club Ford." The cutoff is cars made from calendar 1982 on but in practice it is just to make sure DB1s are not in the Historic / Club Ford class.

    Another way that vintage groups consider eligibility is to allow cars with rocker arm suspension as "Post Club Ford" and not allow cars with bell cranks operating the shocks. This captures a few more of the "tweener" cars without accepting DB-1s
