Default Anyone know what has happened with Speedway Engineering?

It seems that Speedway engineering in Sylmar, CA may be out of business? A couple customers who use my differential in one of their quick change rear ends have gotten on a busy signal when trying to callthem for the last couple months ( I got the same just now). Their FB page and web site are still up and running, but the last post on their FB page was in early April, and all of the viewers posts are asking the same question.

Anyone know? I hate to see them go, as I have sold a lot of differentials thru them for 3 decades.

In case anyone here is interested, Speedway is indeed closing down. Frank so far has refused offer to sell it, but it is possible that the inventory will get sold off.

that will be a big hit to the sprint/midget community, unless they've moved on to something else.

I'll know more once I get to talk with Ken - it is still possible that it may get sold, and it is probable that whomever makes the ring & pinions for them ( US Gear?) will continue to supply them - I have a ton of GT class customers who use the Ministock and would continue to do so as long as those parts are available.

...or if you need, say, 34 ring gear sets on a pallet?

Seriously though there are also a large number of parts, including gears, axles, housings etc. Pretty great opportunity to get things at what will probably be pennies on the dollar.

How sad that another of the countries great racing companies is now gone.

Wish I had the $$$ to buy the rear end parts.

Hi everyone, my name is Alexander Mead. I am own a small circle track speed shop in Watsonille, Ca. We are a team of 6 that builds circle track cars, and have an industrial machine shop under the same roof.

I have been in close contact with Ken on what specific machines we need and what tooling we need to keep Speedway Engineering running. Speedway Engineering has been a big part of our business and a huge part In various family members short track racing careers. As a company, it has lots of lots of sentimental value. And not only does it mean a ton to me, but it's also important to continue to serve the existing customer base and not have all these existing rear ends go to waste because you can't get parts for them.

We are doing the best we can on this short of notice to purchase everything (stock and machinery) we can to keep the company up and running. Many business altercations and even life changes are being made to make this work. Moving and reviving something like this isn't going to be easy.

Dealing with this auction today, we are slam packed. But, please call on Monday. Even if something goes down and prices get driven way up and we miss some stock, well have all the drawings to either build or acquire replacement parts. Fingers crossed we will be able to get the move done quick and get back to servicing the Speedway Engineering community.

Thank you for reading, looking forward to working with you all.

    Alexander Mead.

    Alexander:

I was just on the phone with one of my customers - Road and Race (561-845-6640) - from Florida. Speedway has a Mini differential of theirs that they had purchased from me a few months ago, but never got installed in a rear end and shipped to the customer, and is most likely still in the box that I shipped it in. They, naturally, would like to get it back! At this moment, he is trying to contact the auctioneers about it, so it is possible that he may get your phone #. However, you might try shortening the communication gap by giving him a call.

    Thanks.

It's always a bummer to see a shop you rely on going quiet. I've been in similar situations with local businesses before, and it usually leaves me feeling uneasy. If you know any other speed shops or racing communities in the area, it might be worth asking around to see if anyone has heard anything. I really hope it's just a temporary hiccup for Speedway Engineering, especially since they've been around for so long and have helped a lot of people with their projects.
