I recently found a 1976 Merlyn 29A, chassis number 512 FF 76, that had been sitting for about 20 years. Looking the car over, thinking it's not that bad, decided to prep the car and race against my son who races a vintage Formula Ford. Pulled the 1992 fuel cell to find it supple and no leaks, replaced the foam. Replace the siezed Lockheed master cylinders with Girling masters. Replaced all the fluids in the car and drove it in the parking lot. Repacked the front wheel bearings and CVs. Replaced the Lucas starter with a spare Tilton I had. Put some Hoosier VFF tires on it re-aligned the car. Installed new brake pads, new spark plugs, and a new Harness. Plus took care of several other minor issues I had with the car and took it racing. Only to find out the engine does not make enough power to keep up with my son. Compression is good, timing was correct, reset valve lash, carb has dump tubes, but know nothing about cam timing or what has been done to the cylinder head. Ran the car 3 sessions, it seemed to handle well, just not enough power to run near the front. So I'm done with it, have too many other cars to keep messing with this.
Note: welding on rear upright, welding on adapter and Hewland. Runs and stops, shifts a little hard. Easy restoration or ??? $8,500.00 cash. Denver, CO
