We had a "large" turnout this past weekend at Summit with 7 Club Fords and 2 Formula Fords in a field of 16 total Wings and Things. The racing and camaraderie were top notch all weekend.

Sunday Morning Heat Race:
This was a 9-lapper full of nose-to-tail racing. The top 4 in CF/FF had a fantastic battle. There was coolant on roughly 75% of racing line with an exception of Turn 1, making the surface very slippery and made all of us exercise a bit of caution throughout the race. The lead was swapped numerous times between Steve Roux (Wyvern) & I (Royale) with Sam Eyer (Zink) and Wayne Nicolette (Lola) following closely behind. Having to take a modified rain line, it made passing rather tricky. I ended up taking the Ford win with 0.6 seconds separating the top 4 in CF/FF, finishing 2x2 at the checkered flag. Monday Feature Race:
This was a 20-lapper with an electric battle for the Ford lead between myself and Wayne. Sam Eyer had a lightning fast start taking the early lead in the first couple sectors until Wayne got by him in Turn 6a. The order was Wayne, Sam, myself and Steve Roux as we finished lap one. I was able to get passed Sam headed into Turn 1. Steve ended up getting past Sam and we broke away from the pack rather quickly. Wayne and I are currently battling for the MARRS points lead, so Steve gracefully sat back and watched our battle. Wayne and I swapped the lead nearly every lap, going side-by-side in Turn 1 and figuring out who would lead the next lap heading into Turn 3. This continued throughout the duration of the race. As the final lap was indicated by the "1" board, a Continental was approaching quickly to lap us. Wayne was tucked in behind me as the FC and I were side-by-side through Turn 1. Unfortunately, the FC thought he had cleared me and took his normal exit, causing me to go 2 wheels off drivers left, allowing Wayne to slip on by and take the lead heading into the second sector. I drove my ass off to catch up and was able to get on his gearbox at the exit of Turn 8. I was able to get to the inside of Wayne in Turn 10 as we took it side-by-side. I was able to clear Wayne on the exit and he drafted to my right side as we approached the line. I ultimately took the feature win with 0.058 seconds separating us at the line. It was an incredible battle. Results can be found HERE.
It was very refreshing to have the turnout of Fords we had past weekend. The DC Region of the SCCA hosted a great event, as per usual. Hopefully the trend continues.
We have one more race scheduled for the weekend of October 19th at the newly repaved and widened Thunderbolt Circuit at NJMP. Hope to see some of you there. My brother Max will be racing a Zink that weekend. Should be a blast.
