    Default classic wood boats

Someone wrapped a boat around a killer engine, then seemed to realize at the last minute "oh crap, I need space for a driver" LOL

Not a Curtis D12. It is the Miss Detroit 1918 with a Curtis- Smith V12

And yes, the boat belonged to Gar Wood.

Correct not a D12 but a prototype presented by Glen Curtis to the British government for airplane use. Was turned down and Gar Wood got one to put in a Chris Smith boat. As of ten years ago was reported to be owned by Ken Muscatel of Seattle WA.

Just read a great story about the Miss Detroit from the Hydroplane Museum. Quite a fun story. My time for the Gold cup was during the Atlas Van Line years. One million people watched those races from the shores of the Detroit River. The sound echoing of the buildings went very far. These were very brave men.

If you were lucky enough to be standing on the shore close to the start finish line, the roar was deafening and the ground shook...
