biggest oil filter 90-96 VD

Wondering what people are using. I'm using the NAPA/Wix 1335 "shorty", which fits nicely, but its been suggested I do a better job with filtration. 1335 is 2.5" tall, by my calcs at best I can only fit another 1.25" before it can't fit (need min of 3/4" for the pipe).

Trying to fit an adapter, lines, and remote would be a bit of a packaging nightmare.

I'm using the same filter. Considering the low mileage between oil changes I don't see an issue.

What's your oil change interval? No builder has given me one.

Years ago when I worked on the USAC certification committee we had a mass spectrometer to test oil, and the guys in the office told me that racing (at least Indycar caring) wasn't really all that hard on oil - for the most part it's operating exactly where the manufacturer wants it.

I generally only change it at major maintenance when the motor is coming out of the car, between 10 and 20 hours, mostly due to the time, mess, and high cost (basically, $100) to do so, but also because environmentally, its wasteful. But this last time I had some evidence that my filtration is not up to task, so I'm altering that approach.

The only disadvantage I could see with the small one you've been using is possible restriction due to thick oil on startup, which could be exacerbated with the smaller filter. IMO, getting enough crud in the filter to restrict it and lower output pressure with warm oil is unlikely in our types of racecars unless something already failed in the engine.

I change oil usually once a year as long as it looks OK on the dipstick. That usually means 10 - 15 hours of use.

I use Redline and change it every off season so only about 5 races. Each race for me is about 1 hour of total track time. While track dependent that averages about 100 miles so roughly 500 miles on the oil.

Valvoline VR1 full synthetic racing oil 10W-30. Change about every three or four weekends.....depending on conditions as > temps & how dusty & how long were sessions at full tilt versus pace car laps & the budget. On occasions I've kept the oil and put it in the street car or the mower
