    Default Which CV's get more abuse ?

    Just my brain thinking too much/little.....


    On your typical formula car rear CV axles, would the inner CV's work harder than the outers near the hub ? or the opposite ?


    FF application, Lobro style CV's.

    Also any links or insight as to repacking and rebuilding ?

    Why would the inner or outer CV work less or more than the other? Even if you had inboard brakes, the acceleration and braking forces coming from the inner cv get transferred 100% to the outer which get transmitted through the wheel and contact patch.

    Interesting question for a rainy friday out here on the left coast anyway! Lets see what the real brains have to say?

    Default CV Joint Abuse

    I have no proof of this explanation but my bet is that the outboard CV joint will show more ware from the undamped motion of the upright as the wheels move over the irregularities of the road surface. Think of accelerating over speed bumps on the exit of a corner.

    Looks to me as if the outers would get more movement with the change in camber.

    Default CV Joint wear

    What I have seen over the (many) years I've been involved, was the outers would show signs of wear, pitting,, where the inner joints on the same vehicle didn't.

    I suppose I can see the outer getting perhaps a bit more wear. Perhaps its getting hotter with the heat from the bearings and possibly brakes (in an outboard brake configuration).
