    Default Mid-Ohio timing system

I'm rather new to this, have an EVO 3 / Mychron 3 dash.

Looking at the receiver, but have no clue what the track uses.

Back in karting days, you just put this on the right side of the car and you got lap times.

Is it that simple for Mid-Ohio?

The optical receiver only works if someone puts up a trackside beacon. I don't think the track does it. With all the GPS units today you could probably find a cheap beacon on Ebay.

Right, but they just don't have one permanently installed. It's setup by the event organizer?

is this dead tech? Everyone just uses Mylaps and GPS?

I'm trying to get in car lap times.

I've never seen a track with a permanent beacon. Some had or have the magnetic strips but I think those are even going away. Yes it is old tech but still useful. Seriously, look on ebay for a mycron beacon. If you can't find one I may have an extra in a box somewhere. Set it on the wall with your name on it. Put a sticker on the dash of your tow vehicle so you don't forget it. Much cheaper than upgrading your entire system.
