    Default VW F3 Question

    What cylinder head was used on the US F3 Volkswagen engines that Bertils built?
    I used to run Super Vees and noticed that the cylinder heads on the Bertils US F3 VW engines were cross flow compared to the conventional Super Vee head that was not.

    Casting# or where to get them would be appreciated.

    Aaron...I know of a guy in upstate New York which used to work on those old Bertils motors. He's a friend of my friend and I'm trying to find his contact information for you. I'll keep you posted.

    Thank you. I have a friend who owns an older Anson Super Vee and is looking for a better more reliable head than the original Super Vee head. Any information would be appreciated.

    Just in case your friend w/ the Anson doesn't know.......I bought the entire Anson race car company, and have most parts in stock. I've owned the SA-4 , SA-6, and Sa-7.

    Aaron, IIRC the USF3 engine used the late 90's 2.0L 8-valve crossflow head on a 1.9L TDi block, bored 2-3 mm over standard. I forget the details, but Eric and Sandy at Quicksilver can fill you in. They can be reached at Quicksilver RacEgines.

    As Stan said, '98-99 Jetta or Golf 8 valve crossflow head; casting # 06A 103 373 J. Bear in mind that it has had a lot of the prep the old Supervee head had; bored for big buckets, porting, bigger valves, so it will cost a few $$ to make one up. Bertil also used a much milder cam in the F-3; looks like the same lift, but a lot less duration, a 7200 rpm engine instead of a 8500.

    Hi Everyone,
    At one point in time I owned 8 of the F3 motors. The F3 motors that were built by Bertil racing for Jack Daniel's racing started out life as MK4 2.0 8V AZG engines (40 of them to be exact).
    - The MK4 2.0 8V used a later MK3 (late 90's) 2.0 8V ABA cylinder head (very similar to AZG head)
    - The block was also a MK4 2.0 8V not a 1.9 TDI
    - 220mm Deck heigh
    - 82.5mm bore from factory (not over bored)
    - Raceware head studs
    - Raceware main studs
    - Bertil (crappy) dry sump system
    - CNC ported cylinder head

    Thanks for the fresher info. What don't you like about the dry sump system? I'm running one of these currently.

    The engineering that went into designing the F3 Bertil kit was not ideal. The blocks had to be machined to clearance the oil pump and no OEM parts were used in the process which made using it on an everyday car almost impossible. If it was me , I would have placed the oil pump under the intake manifold similar to the Formula 2 motors:

    I do have a Bertils but missing an oil adapter for the pump..if you can handle that info from the Bertils mechanic will be very appreciate.. Nelson.
