What about all the talk concerning light weight flywheel and racing clutch and other enhancements. Didn't make it in the end ?

Well, none of that is legal. Don't do it.

That weight is the practical limit. If you're a big 200+ lb. guy it would be hard to get down to that. Along with the tires, it does close the gap a bit. Certainly not all the way, but it's a way to get in the ballpark without radically changing the car. Hefty tire bill notwithstanding.

Oh yeah. 6800rpm. There's not much to gain by that route.

I think I have the concept for a better one that's really hard to spoof and doesn't rely on passive components and their inherent inaccuracies to function. The business end is all digital. It would be programmed in the lab, sealed and use DoD anti-tamper concepts, and should be bullet proof. That said, what I have are some specs and a block diagram. Hoping to find a couple guys I used to work with to discuss the detailed design and FPGA implementation.

Well has anyone been out there taking full advantage of the new FM rules? What's the gap to the other potentates in the class?

    Dale,

Because those of us out here on the west coast don’t plan on running the Runoff’s anytime in the near future, we have chosen to adopt the existing FM rules as of 12/31/2021 as our rule set for the Formula Car Challenge. We continue to turn out a dozen or so cars for each of our events at Laguna Seca, Sonoma & Thunderhill so we all agreed that there was no reason to adopt a new set of rules which would only increase the cost and would most likely chase a number of competitors out of our class.

Our SCCA San Francisco Region recognizes us as a Regional FM class only, which works for us.

Thanks for the info Bill. Can't find any fault with that plan.

Has anyone worked the rules package and given their FM their best go in FX this year yet?
