The Chicago Region Sim Racing (CRSR) Group will be hosting a new Rfactor2 series using DTM cars in a few weeks time.
The series uses a ballast system to even out the field (the higher you finish the more ballast you get) and give racers new to sim racing an opportunity to get some good results as they are on the learning curve.
NOTE: High dollar sim rigs are not required to be competitive. Recently added racers using lower end equipment have achieved poles and won races.
Format is:
Tuesday night (Practice Races no points - no ballast - qualification starts at 8 pm CST): First race - 3 lap qualifying - 15 minutes. 2nd race - no qualifying - Reverse grid from Race 1 results - 15 minutes.
Thursday night (Points race with ballast - qualification starts at 8 pm CST): One Race, 12 lap qualifying, 30 minutes.
The CRSR guys are great to run with (the racing is very competitive but also fair. We do our best to give each other room and keep it clean) and I have enjoyed running several series with them. Cadillac DPI, PFM-18, GT3, Karts and am now looking forward to the DTM series. Tracks are to be determined but it appears several of the tracks are actually used or were used by the DTM series. One aspect of the DTM cars we will be using is DRS. The Drag Reduction System is used in the real DTM series and the Rfactor2 cars do as well.
