Default Lazer MKII help/advice with fuel bladder

Just wondering if there are any Lazer MKII owners out there who have replaced the fuel cell bladder before and can give me some pointers. Last weekend’s race ended with bits of degraded foam fouling my filters, so I assumed I would just replace the bladder. Unfortunately it’s a pretty custom bladder originally made for Campbell Motorsports by Donn W Allen, who appears to have been an early engineer of fuel bladders. Doesn’t look like I have much hope of finding an off the shelf replacement without doing some significant body modifications, which I don’t want to get into mid season as I’ve only just started with this car. I’ve also been told I can “clean” the old foam out and just replace it, but it seems to be glued to the inside of the bladder, and my hands are too big to get in there and scrape it out. Any ideas or past experiences greatly appreciated!!

Talk to Protect in Oregon about sending your unit to be matched. I've had nothing but good results with them.

So after speaking to a few other Lazer owners, I’m going to try and refoam it to get me through the season, and then perhaps get it sent out to Pyrotect to make a new one. This bladder is 32+ years old, so I think a full replacement is definitely warranted once the car is put away for the winter. For anyone else searching this thread, David Grimes sent me a link to his how to video where he replaces the foam on a MKII Lazer.

Since there are a few Lazer owners, and I believe nearly all of them could use a new bladder, I wonder if (when the time comes) we can try and get a group discount and order all the same time. No rush on this end though!

Always a good project to try. Suggest after installing the foam, but before you coat the outside, fill it with gasoline and let it set on the garage floor for three days of so. That way, with heat cycling, you can find any small cracks hiding in the glass. If you just coat it without finding the small cracks you might miss them. Sitting in gasoline during a race is "unpleasant"; and once you've coated it the leak path might be circuitous and harder to fix. Just like a leak in your business roof . . . the leak may be twenty or thirty feet from where it runs into your office.

Also I'd replace the fuel filter every track weekend for the first three, or so, track weekends. Cut them open and see if you have debris.

I've seen re-foaming work really well . . . and not work, Ha.

Because of my addiction, I'm leaving for a motorcycle track day at Inde Motorsports Ranch in Wilcox, AZ in a few minutes. I desperately need a track fix. I'm sure that doesn't happen to any of you-all.

    Have fun today. Jim

I have removed old foam residue out by adding a gal of Gas and 10 feet of brass chain .
Agitate and pour out gas. Put fuel through filter pour in with chain and shake again.
You may discover leaks doing this!!
Pyrotech can copy your old cell and reuse the fittings and plates.
    Good Luck

Summit and others have a metal housing with a replaceable/ cleanable filter. I think it is made by SCAT and have seen prices from $10. To $30. This is for 1/4” line.

if you have larger line there are many of this type of filter.

If you have.a bad cell you might have to clean out every session, but works well enough to get through a weekend.
