    Default FE Support

    Dave,

I don't know you, but comments like that are not constructive.

Robey is working hard to revitalize the class and attract new competitors. Working with the supply chain to reduce costs, AR to improve the tires & developing a new throttle body to replace hard-to-find originals are just a few items that I am aware of that are being addressed in the few months he has been involved.

A little credit is due here - bringing the class back from the edge of the abyss is no easy feat.

Do you own an FE? If so, then I would hope you would help preserve its value by talking the series up and helping in the quest to grow the class.

Mick you know Mazda never went anywhere. We just had to change the decals. Did Ford ever do anything for FE? It's great that Mazda is going to support FE. Sounds like its going to be a lot more than they did previously. It's just a shame that a supporter from the beginning was dumped for a junk tire with no track side support. The whole deal stunk from the beginning. End result? The only Runoffs formula class with a slower fastest lap than FE was FV.

Dave, your more than welcome to run a different class. Enterprises, Primus and One Formula are doing a lot to revitalize the class and when big positive steps are taken there are bound to be some small steps backwards. The tires had their problems, but from all accounts the new tires are much better. Of all the things to pout about, surely you can find a reason to be happy about a great class with increasing participation. Cheers bud.

Default Wahoo! 2017 is going to be fun!

Wahoo! It sounds like an exciting year coming for FE! I can't wait! Robey is doing a fantastic job at SCCA-E, and the class is on the upswing! Hey I loved the Hoosiers as much as anyone but I am impressed with the effort to develop the tires. I am sure the Hoosiers we not perfect when they developed their first FE tire. Thanks to Brad, Robey, Kevin, and all the CSR's who are supporting this; it's going to be a blast (and when you fast guys are passing me be sure to wave; i will be the guy in blue with the big smile on his face,,,,trying to get faster!!!)

What's the comparison to the Hoosiers we left? Lap times, weight, # of competitive heat cycles?

I too want to know if the new tires weigh less then the old ones and if so, will the weight be adjusted accordingly.

Im 6'1" 200lbs and we are almost 30lbs over weight as is. There is no need to lower the minimum weight if the new tires are indeed a little lighter. No way with my build can I get much lighter and Im already giving up a bunch. I hope this is taken into consideration as Im sure Im not the only one.

That's weird. Elliot weighs 160 and we have 35 pounds of lead in our car. Why's your car so much heavier?

    Default weight

The FE class had a 1250 weight before the tire change. The weights were adjusted accordingly. Shouldn't they adjust the weights back to 1250?

You may want to consider there's some real lightweight drivers in FE too. I'm 175 and we've stuffed a lot of weight under the seat. Some of the 125lb drivers may run out of space to safely put ballast.

You smaller guys can always keep the holiday weight on into racing season.

Out of curiosity Kieth, how much ballast are you needing to add to make minimum weight? If you sat in my car you would make min weight with no ballast and a gallon or two of fuel in the cell...

We have a spare 12v (10lbs) battery under the seat and 10lbs of lead pucks in the car right now for when we ran on the Hoosiers. We didn't change any of that when we went to the ARs so we were a bit over last season for the few races we did. When we were on the Hoosiers, we usually would try leave a gallon of fuel in the tank as well so on the longer races at Road America, that wasn't always an option so we were always really close towards the end of a race. I would think that you'd be pretty close to ideal at 200lbs to not have to add ballast at all if the weight went back down to Hoosier tire weights. Losing the heft of the ARs would be a good thing.

Some of the difference in car without driver weight may be the bodywork. The older body work is a bit heavier than the new stuff. Also older electronics and camcorders can be heavier.

Actually the original weight was 1265 when I started racing this car in 2007. Then around 2009-2010 Erik changed the weight to 1250 because of a few light weight drivers. This was an immediate penalty for people like me that don't run ballast. Trust me this pissed off a lot of us who are not built like Jockeys. So I hope that the weight of 1270 stays.

This is 100% true. I never understood why Erik lowered the weight. It seemed very unfair to the heavier guys.

    Default 1270

I asked Robey and he said there are no plans to change from the current weight of 1270.

Is there a break down of the contigencies listed somewhere? I see Mazda just released their contingency program for 2017, but it references FE to another site. All I find when I try to find it is the initial press release. What am I missing?

I can email a PDF of the Mazda / Enterprise contingency to anyone that needs it. Enterprises should have it on there website anytime now.

Am I correct in my understanding that there are no more contingencies in the form of credit vouchers from Enterprises for any of the Majors events unless they are designated Super Tour events?

Jeff sent me the note sent out by SCCA-E, but as stated, on the Mazda site, which says do not look at other places about its contingency program, FE is not listed.

Also, different from the sheet, the Mazda site has requirements of beating 4 other competitors to get paid, only 3/2/1 get less, beat none, get none.
