When I first saw the news, I immediately thought of the date difference but after research, verified that it was posted March 31st down there... so cool.
Need to plan a trip down under I guess.

Just another flavor of a spec series. I'm sure they'll be cool looking and sounding but unless there's some open regs what's the point?
How about any FIA crash tested tub with any production V8. Single element front and rear wing. Have at it!
Should be H-pattern shifter too, IMO

Yes, H pattern for sure. Let's ignore the fact that know one makes one for the moment! I'd have no electronics either - engine or data/instruments.

Oh poop! You mean I wouldn't be able to spray a mist of fuel over the trumpets to light it off!?

I love the basic concept. A modern carbon tub, limited Df, big tires and BIG POWER!

Nice idea, but a quarter-mil for a roller is awfully stiff to really get off the ground. A pushrod V8 can be more affordable, but the mandatory lease program probably won't be.
There was a time when I dreamed of this concept in old-school tube frame, but that could never be safe enough without being a ridiculous tank, and it seems a proper CF car can't be mass-marketed for less than this (is an IndyCar Dallara much more?).
I thought Farah Fawcett was smokin' hot too, but the '70s ain't coming back.

It is just under 185,000 in US dollars
Well then, going by established racing-biz math, call it $270,000US from the trumpeted launch price to actual shipment to a legit customer. Heck make a modern tub for those rowdy small-formula vintage maniacs with knobby tires too.
So when this idea tanks, will history repeat and will they add bodywork and call it modern Can-Am? Where's Garvin Brown when you need 'em?

I'm confident there was a time when each of us has dreamed of this concept, but for all the reasons you articulate, and more, we aren't doing it. But want that head-ripping acceleration and insane top speed with less cost, greater safety and quicker laps? Mount a Hayabusa in an FB frame and BE SOMEBODY!!!

For a lot less you can buy a real F5000 and have a lot of fun.

'Cause there's bugger-all down here on earth!
What gearbox are they using on this? I like the idea of the Lola air scoop on a modern car but wouldn't it kill the rear end aero? I had the impression that the 30% drop in the Aus dollar and the China slow down in the last 18 months has cut entries in thier Historic 5000 series from often 40+ in 2013 to barely 20 in current season. Any comments from down-under racers? I wonder if this is the best time to launch this, cool concept though.
