It's the way they do things in Europe. This is why they investigated Ayrton Senna's accident...in a socailist society someone is to blame and someone must pay...
I thought Europe was less sue-happy than us. One reason I formed that opinion was when I went for a trip over there and was allowed to ride around Donnington in some guy's club race car after paying 20 lb. and putting on a helmet. I was wearing a sweater and jeans and was surprised to be flying around a gran prix track at speed. Kept thinking: You'd never see this in America...
Maybe they think the video can show them something that will either help them understand his injuries, and/or help prevent future similar accidents.
Yup. Much less. You can still pay 25 Euro and go out on the Nurburgring in a bus, motorcycle, limo, or Ferrari. Think you can do that at Watkins Glen?
Maybe they just want to prevent a death? Or, they want to make sure this is addressed and does not affect the tourism income.
Perhaps the police investigate all serious injuries & deaths to determine if the accidents are indeed just accidents or, are there nefarious motives, risky / negligent actions by others or of the person injured, faulty equipment, etc. Similar to how our NTSB investigates all plane crashes ? Determining who or what is at fault will need to be addressed. Lawsuits, insurance claims & financial responsibility may all come into play.... A thorough investigation & an accurate account of this accident is in order. IMHO... In the meantime, we continue to hope for Michael's recovery.

If you ever read Jackie Stewart's book...after Jochen Rindt's fatal accident at Monza, he ran into Colin Chapman at the airport...tried to give him emotional heartfelt condolences, but Chapman just about knocked him over trying to get on a plane out of Italy before he got collared by police....

Aaah, yes. Socialism.... Michael & his family are not free individuals. They are government property. The government is simply investigating damages done to public property (Michael). After all, they risk losing a rather large income stream. Is that what we've all become ? State property ? Apparently...
Perhaps this is the real reason behind the declining numbers in racing. Collectivism vs Individualism.
Here's to Michael's recovery. For his own sake and that of his family & friends. We are praying for You, Michael.

France, Italy and most Spanish speaking countries (and some others) legal systems are based on the Napoleonic code. English speaking countries have legal systems based on English common law. The two systems are very different. Every incident involving death or serous injury in the Napoleonic code countries are treated as criminal cases are are vigorously investigated. The criminal courts in those countries somewhat takes some of the functions of out civil tort system. At least, that is what I may or may not remember correctly from a business law class taken 43 years ago.
Napoleon was a socialist?

Well they are. This fact is well established.
BTW, "they" are "us". Corporations, like the government, aren't separate from us. For better or worse we have a government of the people.
It's like when people complain about SPEED tv going by the wayside with billy bob shows and what not. It's not SPEED's fault they don't have the viewership to maintain their valiant ideals. My understanding from my short and shallow interaction with some of those folks is that they all hate NASCAR with a passion.
Congress today has the lowest approval rating in history. It's below 20% isn't it? We literally spent billions thanks to the recent government shutdown, for no purpose whatsoever. Yet most of those folks will be re-elected. It's pretty clear what's going on here.
This thread has taken a bizarre turn
Lock, stock, and barrel. Two words: campaign contributions. The politicians stand before the lobbiests with both empty hands outstretched: in their left hand you place the campaign contribution, in their right hand you place the legislation you want passed or repealed. As Nancy said: "We need to pass this bill so we can see what's in it."
I respect the moderator's wishes to keep political topics off this site, so I suggest you go here for the root cause of this mess that we the sheeple have allowed:

Judging by the way things are run in my neck of the woods and given the hypothesis that the government is owned by big business..I would suspect that the government here is owned by the same company that makes 'shamwow'.
Any new updates on Michale's status can be started in a new thread... this one has lost it's way.
