Compared to European ticket prices $159 for 3 days is a bargain. I paid more than that to go to just the practice day at the British Grand Prix last year.

The personal seat licenses doesn't go into Bernie's pocket. It goes into Red McCombs pocket. He is the Texas billionaire that has supported the track and owns car delaerships and other businesses here in Texas.

I'm willing to bet that the $ makes a brief stop in Red's pocket, leaves then travels in to Bernie's coffers.

OR right to Petra Ecclestone's account to make a mortgage payment on her $150,000,000 Los Angeles 'shack'. After all, sweeping that 100 car garage must cost a fortune every month. And it must take several maids to clean 57,000 sq. ft. every week!

Default 85 MPH - San Antonio to Austin

I have just read that a toll road between San Antonio to Austin is opening in November with an 85 mph speed limit. When?
    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/11/us...-the-land.html

There still are some hotels in the San Antonio area with standard rates. However, some have increased rates and have four night stay requirements. What is the picture on the parking shuttles to the track? Is it going to be chaos without an expensive parking pass?

Well, that's true but I not be hatinn. Just wishin we were closer friends (Petra that is) her mom's genes were most EXCELLENT.

And don't be worrying about the track. Gov. Perry was in Monza last weekend assuring all that Texas was READY! I doubt he's ever driven a car at velocity but he was telling all that T1 was the "best T1 corner' ever on the F1 schedule.

Perry sure sounded a lot more confidence-inspiring at Monza then he ever did in his campaign!

Turns out I'm not that busy this weekend. I could go sweep the garage for Petra!

    Default Parking

I just received a COTA email about parking, stating that there are the $200 parking passes and the free park-and-ride shuttle which comes with the admission ticket. There are going to be two pick-up points for the shuttles, 15 & Trinity downtown, and the Travis County Expo Center. The email points out that while the shuttle is free, the lots at the shuttle pick-up "may" charge an unspecified fee. Apparently COTA is going to assign ticketholders to one or the other of the pick-up points. Details on the assignment process are not so clear.

I thought I saw something on Twitter about the garages not being in compliance with a local building code. Was that a bad joke or can anyone confirm or correct the story?

Being in construction business here myself i seriously doubt that on property that expensive home inspector would miss something like building code non compliance.
However **** does happen, would be nice to remodel that place for Petra.

I'm not sure I see enough paddock space around the place to hold 800 of us when the runoffs go there in 2014.

Default Lotus to open Circuit of the Americas

Lotus will become the first team to drive the newly-constructed Circuit of the Americas venue in Austin, Texas next month. 1978 Formula 1 World Champion Mario Andretti will be joined by actor Patrick Dempsey and Lotus reserve driver Jérôme d'Ambrosio, with all three men completing demonstration runs with the outfit's 2010 R30.
Andretti will officially open the circuit, with his outing set to mark his first run in a modern F1 car since retiring from the sport in 1982. Dempsey, a racing driver and actor best known for his role as Dr. Derek Shepherd in the American television series Grey's Anatomy, will also enjoy mileage before handing over to d'Ambrosio.
The 2012 United States Grand Prix marks the first Formula 1 race in America since 2007, when Lewis Hamilton triumphed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

I have an extra single King motel room in north Austin, cheap. PM me if you need a room!
(Room has been taken, thanks Frank.)

I went back and saw that it was a Will Buxton tweet. It included a photo of him holding a large pint. I'm thinking it wasn't his 1st pint or that someone grabbed his phone.

The first tweet was a concern about whether they were in compliance. The qualy broadcast had an update from Will that clarified it to be an issue with the teams wanting more space. Whiting put it to rest apparently.
