    Default When is a spin......

Since I know that some of you are coming from FC just thought that I would mention that in your spares package it is important to carry a starter.

The M/C motor starters are not retracted by a bendix the way that they are on the Ford motor. In a spin if you neglect to put both feet in and you spin the motor backwards it will over rev the starter. They still have value but only as a musical instrument - they sound a lot like a maraca. I bought 3 of them before I finally learned my lesson.

    Now the catch - Ebay $50 to $150 - Dealer $325

For the GSXR guys a 600/750cc starter will bolt up and will work as a spare - may not have the guts to turn over a full blown DSR motor but that is not an issue with this goup.

Unless there is a back torque limiting clutch.

But good idea and thanks for the heads up.

I've got a "starter saver"... a bracket the allows the user to start the car then pull a push-pull cable that slides the starter out of harms way. Crutchfield builds and sells them.

Or, just not forget to push in the clutch. (brake, also!) How are you going to spin & win if you don't keep it running?

One thing I've got plenty of practice doing... spinning! Truth is I have yet to run a cable to the saver... BOTH FEET IN!

Rob, my ZX-10 has this, but I don't know much about it. I've heard people talk about a "slipper clutch", which I guess is the same thing. According to bike literature, it helps prevent wheel hop during slowing and braking. Do you think it lets the chain run backwards without hurting anything?

By the way, I'm a BIG proponent of both feet in. I've seen too many needlessly damaged cars because a spinner goes shooting unpredictably into the path of someone. I guess we all have.

Default M Gibson, Beyond Thunder Dome: "I'd hook that cable up, Mate..."

Sean, Don't be a fool, Man!
    Hook that pup up posthaste!
    Better safe than sorry...
    The Startersav'r by EDCO, indeed!
Ed, is this a deal you came up with? If so, I'm impressed.
I'm a little embarrsaed that I knew nothing of it's existence.

I've got the same problem every now and then. No, not the starter engaging while spinning around, rather devising a solution to a problem that an iffimitessimally small percentage of the population will perhaps be a afficted with and need the help of (Ca-Ching) said device.

The market will still be really small, but at least 5x as big...market it to the Legend guys, Dwarf car guys as well as the TQ, mini and micro sprint guys that run at tracks requiring starters.

The slipper clutch lets you downshift on a bike without using the clutch, so you dont have to match the revs with wheel sping. It kind of makes it like a 2 stroke dirtbike/and or shifterkart. They work really well and it is a pretty slick idea. When I was racing bikes a few years ago that was the "new thing" to have. Pretty much all the 600/750/1000 bikes have them now..........
