    Default FF2000 prs

A friend of mine wants to put together a FF2000 PRS to run in the UK alongside his 1600 version. To be allowed to race he has to prove that a PRS raced in FF2000 in period. They weren't used in the UK FF2000 Championships at the time but I have a photo that I took at Mosport Park in 1985 of a car running in the Canadian Championship.

Does anyone know when this car first raced and if there were any other PRS's racing in FF2000 in the early 80's

    Regards,

    Alan Raine

I can't say anything about more of them, but here are results for that year.

    That's excellent Gary. Thank you.

At least we now have proof of a FF2000 PRS racing in the 80's.

It would be interesting to know how old Tedd McHenry's car was. It looks like it's based on an RH02 from around 81, 82.

Must be nice to have high enough car counts that one can turn away entries based on lack of provenance!

The HSCC in the UK are very strict regarding at what can enter their races. They generally get good grids at their meetings so are in a position to ensure cars are as raced in period.

    Alan:

I bought the PRS in the winter of 1985 and competed in the '85 Canadian Tire F2000 series. The car is a 1983 model. It definitely raced in the 1984 series, but I can't recall the driver's name. It was previously driven by John Scratch, multiple Canadian FF1600 champion, and I think it was the 1983 season that John raced it. I'm not aware of any other PRS F2000s in Canada during those years.

The PRS originally had boxier side pods, possibly with ground effects tunnels. But by the time I bought it it had been converted to the side radiator arrangement you see in the photo. Somewhere I have photos of the car with it's original bodywork. I could try to find them and scan them for you, if it will help.

Incidentally, that photo must be from fairly early on in the season, judging by the front wing angle. Mosport is a fairly fast track, so I began with very flat wings, thinking that would be the hot set-up. However, as the season progressed I discovered that the PRS was so draggy compared to the Swifts and Reynards that I was actually better off running a higher downforce configuration. The extra drag of the wings was hardly noticeable on the straights, but the downforce helped a lot in the turns.

The car was imported in 83 by Wayne Pinney and originally driven by Canadian FF star John Scratch. The styling was a copy of a Ralt. Wayne and John parted ways when not competitive. The car was reworked and essentially became a rental car for 84 when Peter Hanes drove for Wayne. It may even have been renamed an Ash which was the name of Wayne's company and previous FFs. The car ran out of Danny Burritt's shop which later ran R K Smith and Paul Tracy. I believe Wayne/Danny were supposed to be a PRS dealer initially.

    Greg:

Yes, all that matches what I remember, too. Except the part about R.K. Smith driving for Danny; I don't remember that, but I might have been gone from Ontario by then.

I'm out near Vancouver now, running a Xpit F4 in vintage, after a 25-year hiatus from racing.

The PRS being discussed shows in the results as #98 or #998 in the 1983 series and #3 in the 84 Series. Lots of future Pro drivers in those archives.

Many thanks for the info. I'll pass it on.

The photo was taken at the World Sports Car meeting, September 1985.

That must be Ian Willis's car? That's the only Tiga I remember from back then.

The car started life as a 1983 PRS FSF (formula superford, later to be known as F2000)
Wayne pinney modified in over the winter of 1983/84, narrowed the sidepods, did some other stuff, and rebadged it a 1984 ASH PRS F2000.

Looking for some photos of it in it's original configuration.
