Default formula super vee gear ratios

i have a 1979 march super vee (1600 cc) that i have restored and plan on running vintage and some scca regionals in the midwest.

can anyone help me out with gear ratios for the following tracks?

    blackhawk farms
    gingerman
    grattan
    road america
    watkins glen

please let me know which ring and pinion you use, so i can convert ratios if needed.

    thanks for the help,

    Merry Cristmas!

Your car has a water cooled engine....right?

Probably a completely diferent power curve than mine...air cooled 1975 Royale RP18A. I have not run the car yet but these notes came with the car.

    with a 10:31 final drive

    Mid Ohio 17/34, 20/32, 21/30, 23/28
I.R.P. same as above with a 23/29 top gear

    That is all I have.

Fletch, this may (or may not :-) help:

If you can determine the lowest and highest speeds that you will be going, you can do some math to determine gears that are pretty close.

In my experience (with an '83 RT-5), top speeds are usually just a few (2-5?) MPH above the front running FF2000's. Therefore, maybe those guys can tell you their min and max speeds at those tracks.

I usually used my first gear for the paddock only, so effectively ran a four speed on the track.

The other bit of info you'll want to include as you think about gears is your power band - the lowest RPM you want to drop to in the lowest corner on the track, and the redline that you want to get close to at the top speed.

    HTH some.

    Default Super Vee gear ratios

    Fletch,
I still have my Ralt RT-1 formula Super-Vee, but have not raced it since 1988. These are the ratios (4-speed for vintage) that I ran as FC until 1988, then it became a 5 speed for F/A. 10/31 CWP, Rear tire diameter was 21.5" at that time. Use your current CWP(if not 10/31) and rear tire OD to correct.
Road America, 17/35, 19/33, 21/31, 23/28 (not my best track, but this is a start)
    Blackhawk Farms, 16/34, 18/33, 20/31, 22/30
    Gratton, 15/36, 18/33, 20/30, 23/29

    Fletch,

Based on Russ' comparison to FF2000, you might get some ideas from Continental Crossle's site:
