    Default tires

Well, I'm stoked! I recently puchased a late(r) Anson SA 4 Super Vee and I'm very impressed to see this topic included in the new site.

I think the early ground-effect SV's and Atlantic cars are really intriguing, and I hope folks will share their knowledge for those of us who are just coming into these cars.

My specific question is on tires: Goodyear 160's versus 430's...what are the characteristics and recommendations on these things for 8" fronts and 10" rears on the tunnel SV cars?

And has anybody tried the Avon radials that they're using in the Zetec pro series on these cars?

Thanks in advance for the advice, and again, I'm REALLY impressed to see this thread and I hope there's a lot of interest in these cars.

    Best regards,

    Allan

    Default Welcome

Hi, Allen. Congrats on your new car. Can we see pictures of it?

Sorry I can't help you with tire recommendations. I run Hoosier 35's (or 45's when really hot) on 6" & 8" wheels.

Contact Dave Handy at SASCO Sports, http://www.sascosports.com/,
He drives Atlantics and I am pretty sure he would be glad to answer your tire questions.

    Allan,

We have had good success with the Hoosier 35 & 45 compounds, espcially at tracks where graining is critical. Regading Avons, I would check as changing to a radial tire wiith your suspesion probably will not work as it was designed for bias ply tires.

    Good luck,
    Denny

    Default Radials?

    Allan,

Do not consider the radials. Profile is different, tire spring rates are different, and it will provide a very strange feeling and unusual handling. Unless you have a fair amount of experience in these cars just start with a medium compound tire of your choice. Since Russ McB has a wealth of experience in this type of car I would listen to him.

    Hi Charles,

Thanks for the advice. I reckon I'll be running Goodyear 430's for a while and maybe try some Avon bias-plys later on.

    Best regards,

    Allan

    Update: January 31, 2005

Apparently, the 430 compound in SV sizes (8"/10" 2010/2011) are NLA, so I'll be running 175's instead. We'll see how they hold up.

    Regards,

    Allan

So what are you up to these days Mike? Not seeing that Anson on pregrid will be strange.
