Bought a FV and will be attending school in Texas in January. I need to get all of my gear in order. These guys popped up somewhere, whats the catch, junk? Suits are like $250.

Check out Summitracing.com, they have decent multi layer suits for about $250 or less.

I ended up buying a package from Speedway Motors, summer of 2022.

It was a suit, gloves, and shoes for $350 or so, Zamp brand. I also bought the Zamp brand head and neck restraint, which is adjustable for neck angle. Very important to get it right for you and your car.

The Speedway nomex socks are horrible, so I bought nicer ones.

Don't forget your helmet and head sock too. For the helmet I went to a local speed shop(I live near Behrents) and tried them on. That was a good call.

Last thing you'll need is arm restraints. Make sure they're easy to attach to your car's belts.

X2 for Speedway. Look at their clearance section. I bought 3 layer sparco for $ 75 last winter older designs but good suit.
Same for all other gear except helmets.

Good info thanks. Its awesome how the prices on head restraint devices have come down. I raced tunnel boats for years and we had 5 point restraints. I believe the device back then was north of $1000. Does SCCA mandate head restraints?

Yes, head and neck restraints are required for SCCA road racing. For a Vee I'd recommend a 6 point formula car harness. Most harnesses today are designed to be used for a Hans, but make sure.

I have to say I'm really pleased with my safety equipment. I spun almost 180 degrees in a slow corner and was hit in the front beam at about a 45 degree angle at about 40 mph. Afterward, I had ZERO after effects. No aches, pains, nothing at all.

Make sure you and your car fit and fit well. Take the time and money to do a foam seat. Make sure the belts are TIGHT. That way you don't get hurt.

Heck yeah, I have flipped a boat at close to 90 and sunk to the bottom. Terrifying waiting on divers while you breath from an air bottle but all of that gear saved my life. Some of they guys I raced with wouldnt have air onboard with them, felt it was too restrictive when they tried to get out. What if you are unconsious, mind boggling the logic on that.
