These are big with rally cars, but it is necessary when trying to put a
fuel injected engine in an older car that used carburetors and does not have a
fuel pump in the
fuel cell/tank. It is all but impossible to sustain 40-60 psi of
fuel pressure using an external
fuel pump with the original
tank pickup. So rather than replace the cell, or cut it up to modify, you can use a
swirl pot as a collector. So you use a low pressure pump to pump
fuel from the cell to the
swirl pot, then a high pressure external pump from
swirl pot through a regulator to the engine. There is a port for the regulator return. 4" diameter and about 5" tall.
There are some very crude Chinese tanks available for less than $100, but the good ones are much more. Similiar unit here
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/abt-itc305. I wanted the smallest one I could find for packaging in my FF. Mine is made in England by OBP. Without the
swirl pot, I would start losing FP when my 6 gallon cell got below 5 gallons. When I installed the
swirl pot, I could run it down to the last 1/2 gallon.
$250 and I will throw in two used high pressure inline external
fuel pumps. I replaced many pumps before trying the
swirl pot, so I expect the pumps work just fine.
