Default monitization of social media - how's it work?

I've zero interest in doing this, but really curious how it works. Does anyone have a simple-english explanation of how all these people make these vast amounts of money posting trivial video clips online?
    What's the business model?

    example:

in really simple terms its a simple numbers game. you get paid per "impression". an impression is where the ad engines in Google, Facebook and others register a value to that page view. then it's simple math. More impressions more money.

    Getting there is hard work.

you typically have to manage multiple social media accounts to generate traffic to your social media product(s). the more activity the web search crawlers register, meaning, the more searchable social media content you produce in a regular timely fashion, the more value you ad to your product.

produce a video at least monthly and it will take 1-3 years to build a solid number of viewers. 3-5 years to make the endeavor self sufficient and profitable

I tried it with just blogging, about to dive in and try a little video. With sites like patreon and other creative content companies, you can have more options to get funding for your projects.

It's a lot of work if you want to make money.
