This is 2008 but theres some info in here http://www.vhrr.com/newsletters/HFF_July_08.pdf
Thanks
I was with Tony Vogel and Garrett VanCamp at Waterford hills last weekend and the subject came up
Tony was the original driver and owner of the FF and Garrett drove 1 of the 5 LYNX Super Vees that they built
They were wondering if anybody knew anything about them now
I purchased one of the original Lynx Super Vees in the early 80s. I spent 3 years redesigning the suspension to inboard, the engine to a water cooled VW as well as a complete new body/side pods/wings etc. this was a great car with a super stiff semi monocoque chassis. It worked really well and I set multiple lap records with the car in the 1984 season (I think) in the FC class.
I loved it but had to sell it as I was broke.

According to Bob Riley's book, "The Art of Race Car Design" which is a good read, there were 2 Lynx Formula Fords manufactured.Riley Lynx FF v2.PDF
Couldn't capture the photo, but here's what's written there:
"ABOVE The Formula Fords were more expensive
to build. Most of the suspension was made from
production parts for small European cars. We
built only two Lynx Formula Fords, one of which
was owned by Tony and Donella Vogel."
Both Lynx FF's are listed in the 2008 newsletter (post #3).

I came across this thread and would like to let you know the only known example of the Lynx FF is in my garage. It's been in my possession since 1978. I bought it as a basket case and it has remained like that ever since.
I did have the original owner, Tony Vogel, stop by just yesterday to confirm this was his car. I had contacted Bill Riley, Bobs Son, and he put Tony in contact with me
According to Tony, the second car was never completed. Tony's father did the templates for the body, which I found interesting. He shared a lot more of the history and it was a pleasant visit.
Here is a picture of Tony with the car as it is.

Not by me. I have it on the market and several interested buyers. But it has been out for less than a week and want to get closer to my target. $6500 negotiable. Keep in mind there is no complete engine.
It is a bit of racing history and appears to be the only one that was completed.
We’ll now the car is in my shop waiting for a full restoration. I picked it up on Saturday then drove it back to Tennessee (1300 miles round trip) then threw the corners on it to get an idea of how it will look. This will be fun. Also went and met Tony And Donella Vogel who gave me copies of a couple of pics from back in the day and the original blueprint drawn by Bob Riley and it is a full size side view of the frame. It’s 10 feet long. The Vogel’s are extremely nice folks. Sorry can’t figure out how to get that photo straight.

This car has no idea how lucky it is to have been picked as Graham's next project! This is going to be neat!
Anyone notice the 5 lug wheels? Unique!!

This should be fun to watch come together!

Don't think it's going to pass the broomstick test, but not sure it's required for Vintage racing. Nice piece of history though.

Well I guess I should have kept this thread going but got busy on the car instead. It's done. I had the honor of debuting/shaking down the car at the HSR Daytona Classic 24 hr. Had a blast and what a great event where the Riley cars were the marque of the event and I got to drive it in the exhibition laps with the other Riley 24 hour winning cars on the Friday and Saturday. Got to meet Bob and Bill Riley as well as the original owner/driver Tony Vogel who I visited when i bought the car was there. Tony gave me the original hand drawn by Bob blueprint which is full size and 10 feet long. Here are some pics for those interested. Bob and Tony really liked out the car turned out. The second one Bob built and was never finished and scraped so this Lynx Formula Ford is the only one.

I could swear I saw this car run in the day... but my memory connects it to John Kalagian — and never beento Waterford — so am probably confusing it with the Super Vee.
Brilliant restoration, well done!
Once we think we’ve mastered something, it’s over

The Lynx was a lovely surprise at the Classic 24. - Beautifully done
We had the privilege of showing two of the Riley Mk 3s in the picture, a Riley track day prototype and the ex Dorsey Raybestos Trans Am car in the Riley tribute. It was great to see Bob and Bill and a number of the Riley guys. Really was someting special to be a part of.Pity there were no more of Bobs Formula car designs there
Phil
"Pity there were no more of Bobs Formula car designs there". Yes I agree Phil. Would have been nice to see the Coyote cars of AJ Foyts there. Bob told me the Lynx was the first car he designed in a wind tunnel and many of the design features in the Lynx were carried over into the Coyote cars. He said they look similar only a bit bigger. Bob is still very sharp at 91. Just watching him rubbing his hands over the car and telling me the little features of it was priceless. The Lynx is quite a bit smaller than the Mk III . Phil, do you know who was driving the 20 car in the exhibition laps on Saturday?

This may be correct. While talking to Tony at Daytona he was reading the little info folder I put together on the car history and he confirmed that the car did one race at Blackhawk Farms. He had forgotten about it when I first talked to him when I purchased the car. Thanks for the clarity.
Graham
We took both of the Mk3 Rileys belonging to Al Petkus - the #20 99 Daytona winning car he drove himself, His good friend Dan Harrison drove the ex Scott Schubot car.
