Monaco Historic Races this past weekend

I'm surprised no one has commented about the 73-76 F1 race at the Monaco Historic races this past weekend. The ending of the race was somewhat controversial because of a crash by Jean Alesi in Niki Lauda's Ferrari. Despite the crash and controversy, it was a great race. The video of the entire race may still be available on Youtube, but this article summarizes the events:

On the link above, the race in question starts around the 6:18 mark and goes to the 7:00 hour. It is worth watching the entire race. Those two cars were nose to tail out of that corner (and just about all other corners) for nearly the entire race and it seems something different had to have happended to have that hard of an impact...I thought it would be hard to avoid. Werner was not pleased; evident by his podium conduct.

Alot of interesting footage if you have the time and inclination to watch more especially some of the walk around grid shots of the various cars.

I was talking about the second video — which looks digital to me — and already commented on the first one as a racing accident, and possibly from a missed shift.

Between the lack of vibration, the surreal clarity, and the way the passing blurs looked, it really seemed fake to me!

There are now scores of videos, including from virtually every car, showing up for viewing. Spectacular sights and sounds. I love the chosen era--big wings, big tires, no ground effects. 500hp Formula Mazdas, although FMs have more front protection.
