    Default Race Monitor, Race Hero

Can someone educate me about these two apps, please? Like, when you use each, pros and cons, etc? Do they both do the same thing?

    Thank you.

They are pretty much the same. I had to buy both for Champcar because you never know which one they are going to be using it seems. Race hero has gap times which is a nice feature.

I have the free versions of both. Agree mostly similar in function and feel. There is an app called Driver Monitor that takes the feed from either and gives you gap ahead, behind, position in class, etc. It can be used with an iPhone or iPad. Developed by an Apexer.

This is by subscription, but is like having your spotter in the car with you...

I laughed when I looked at their site "Go Fasterer!" Do I need an app for that?

Looks cool though. I'd get it if they had Android so my crew could monitor things. No iStuff here or in my posse....
Think they are missing a large segment.

Agreed, but android phone/app compatibility is a huge challenge with so many manufacturers. App developers have fits getting their apps to work consistently across all the platforms.

    Russ,
The basic difference is that Race-Monitor was FIRST and, although the first year is free, subsequent years are a 'stoutly' $5/year renewal . Race Hero is from the MSR gang and continues to be FREE. Race-Monitor also charges the regions a fee for their service while Race Hero does not (at least I don't think so). However, many regions got on board before RH got into the game so still use RM.. SOME also support both on the same weekend, but RH is 'less used' than RM. RH is 'more indepth' as it provides ALL LAPS for ALL competitors, while RM charges EXTRA for that information in their app.. Don't know the extra fee $$ since I've never subscribed to that part of it.

Both also provide access to RESULTS after the sessions are over and both allow the option to show 'by class' in their views. I find that RH works MUCH more reliably in the 'by class' settings, while RM is .. still trying to figure out how to make that work correctly.

That is MY experience with both. If you only want one on your phone (or other digital device) you need RM. I have both so I watch RH when it's available and RM when RH is not available.

It is really annoying when 95% of the events I go to use RM and suddenly I am in pitlane with a session started, and no timing, because someone wants to "improve" my timing experience by only using RH. I either have to go without, or try and figure out how to download an app when my car is on track.

Most people active in racing can afford $5 per year. My $5 per year RM version tells me gaps btw.
