Scholarship Program. NCRSCCA is proud to have an annual Scholarship Program for students within the NCR region.
Our mission: The North Carolina Region of the Sports Car Club of America (NCR) membership are strong supporters of our youth and their future. It is the wish of the individuals and Companies who donate funds, that their contributions to the program provide financial assistance to graduating high school seniors within the NCR area.
You can find the scholarship program, update “press releases” on the NCRSCCA website: https://ncrscca.com/north-carolina-r...rship-program/
100% of the funds will go to the Scholarship Program. The program has no employees or paid staff. NCR-SCCA members volunteer their time to the program.
The primary benefit of the program is to assist a graduation high school student with fund to attend a school of higher learning after high school. Helping someone achieve to their goal is more than a worth while reason to donate.
The second huge benefit of the program is the exposure that SCCA will get within the school systems. Let’s face it, the majority of us did not know about SCCA in high school. We had cars and loved to hear those motors roar but SCCA came to most of us later on in life. Solo, Time Trials, Track Day, etc. did not exist in a lot of areas. Sports cars were too expensive and limited in number.
By introducing SCCA and sports car racing to a broader population at a younger age, the hope is that those with the bug (you know – the need for speed) will see that first we are there and second that they have an avenue to get involved. None of us will dispute that our membership needs to grow.
Our current goal is to give away at least one $500 scholarship each year. This is awarded at the high school annual awards banquet. We do not tell the student in advance that they are getting the award, it is a surprise. Most all schools have this type banquet each year. The entire student body is in attendant, all the teachers and lots of parent. So, we not only do we get the exposure of having SCCA and the NCRSCCA website on their high school scholarship webpage, now have a physical presence in front of the entire school. As the student walks down to get the award, we have 1 or 2 min to tell the audience about SCCA/NCRSCCA (sports car racing).
Now I’m not an advertisement person, but $500 is a cheap way to expose our organization to thousands of driving youth and at the same time do something great for one of them.
If we can generate enough fund, we will give away more than one scholarship each year, different school system. Example: if we had $1500 in the fund, we would give away 2 awards, saving one for next year.
My hope would be that our SCCA members and businesses will be very supportive of this effort and the award will grow to $1000 per award. Hey, it not unlike anything else, the bigger the award the more attention it gets.
So why this note: to inform you and give you a change to win the great original “road racing” Camel GT sign that was donated to be raffled off. The winning ticket will be drawn at the NCRSCCA Oct event this year at VIR. You don’t have to be present to win. We will hold it for the winner in our storage facility at VIR.
So, if you want to help a student pay for high education, have a shot at winning a great sign, promote SCCA in the high school community, then consider buying a raffle ticket, donate or tell a friend. Either way we will be grateful of your efforts.
If someone has an item(s) that they want to donate for a 2021 raffle prize or wants more information about the program, please feel free to contact me.
