Default Rolex 24 hrs Daytona 2021

An entertaining race with BOP & Long Yellows for regrouping the restarts. More like 11 two hour sprint races strung together. Multi-class racing kinda like SCCA...

I always enjoy the Daytona 24 - we get it live on IMSA TV on this side of the pond - mainly because, for me at least it's a bit like the Steve McQueen "Racing is life.." quote, and Daytona is kinda like the waiting's over

It was great to have five cars on the lead lap at the end.

Back in the day I'd tune out of the 24 hrs because as a 24 hr race the leaders lapped their competition and there was little "racing at the end... This new format kept me engaged throughout. NASCAR realized a number of years ago that throwing a debris yellow (hot dog wrapper) gathered up the field for a restart to keep fans engaged & entertained. I'm glad to see IMSA keeping more cars in the race to the podium at the end.

But...but... Is it really a 24 hour race? I'm not so sure.
i believe it punishes the leaders who have legitimately built up a lead.

Back in the 60s - 70s distance racers were constantly being broken. Now it's a only a real race the last 3 hours..

The elimination of "local yellows" has altered the whole show.

Our cable company is in a money fight with local NBC affiliate so no broadcast of start & finish. Fortunately, thru VPN i found the race via Twitchy & European website to watch on YouTube with streaming to our TV. This new tech is very impressive and makes life so easy for the analog guys like me. Incredible software on Incredible hardware with Incredible A.I. on Incredible Quantum Super Computers. Absolutely Incredible ! Just don't release the Terminators until I'm on the wrong side of the sod...

While I basically enjoyed it, as long as IMSA is owned by nascrap it'll never be a pure race in my view ... these full course yellow wave-arounds that manipulate the show are unfair to the guys up front doing a good job.
Mazda bragging they made up a 3 lap deficit in the last five hours - what hogwash, they got three wave-arounds...

All credit to Taylor (yet again), a true underdog becoming an over-dog

Is the track layout the same as the Runoffs a few years ago? Michael Lewis was running 1:44s back then in his old Jag GT-1, which is about 2 seconds off the best GTLM pace but about 4 seconds faster than the GTD cars. He must have good horsepower with his 196 MPH trap speed, he was lapping the same as the LMP3 cars.

I thought if a DPi car was a lap down you could restart at the rear of the DPi pack but you were still a lap down.

That is what was stated in the broadcast. Same with the other classes, too.
