    Default New Zetec

I am sorry about the picture. Both myself and one of my kids tried to get it right side up.

I wish I was!! Just a bus driver with an old Bonanza.
Seriously everyone, What do you think this engine is worth?
What is it worth to send a new engine to your favorite builder and get one back that will go 4000 miles like the old days?

    Default Priced wrong??

OK, not much response so I must be wrong on value.
I would really appreciate some ideas of what this thing is worth.
I would love to hear your opinion even if you are not currently in the market for one.
I know some people are buying the over-bored rebuilt zetec from Summit racing for around $2600
and I would think it would be worth that at least. I would rather have new Ford than Summit rebuilt by who?
    What do you all think?
    Thanks very much

Brad at Primus is selling a remanufactured long block for $2700, go to https://www.primusracingparts.com/VE...ed_p_4594.html

The problem with a stock engine is that it will take several thousand dollars to make race ready. You will need to add the intake system, dry sump, new rods and pistons, rebalance the crank, and add car specific items like water and oil lines.

But would you not have to add those same items to a Re-manufactured engine also?

I believe the answer is yes. And you would probably want to sleeve the engine as well, although if it is remanufactured it may already be sleeved.

I asked Quicksilver about prepping the rebuilt engine from Brad and they said it would be no cheaper than having mine rebuilt.

According to engine builders i have spoken to the commercially rebuilt zetec engines are overbored .005 or .010.
They would never bother to sleeve when they can just over bore the cylinders which is the common repair procedure.
    Thanks for the info,

Looks like I dodge a really big bullet by not bring in New Ford Crate long blocks for resale. I can't believe this hasn't sold. What this shows me is that Z-tec's aren't being built according to SCCA rules? Must be a lot more going on in the rebuilds than is allowed by the SCCA rule book.

Maybe try the roundy round types, the Focus Midgets use that same motor, I think.

The Midget have the same rules bone stock no after market parts no touching the castings valves pistons rods cams. Difference with midgets they enforce the rules they write.

We will be back to racing this year. The engine builders have the time and may need the work at this time.
Why wait and get in line with everybody else in a month or two?
If you have a zetec that has miles on it why not buy this one, and put your accessories on it. I may have some of the necessary accessories that could be bought with it.
Just a thought, The builders will have a waiting list 60 days from now.

Or that the engines are lasting pretty long and then being rebuilt. Very few need to start over with a new long block. I'm still on the same block from 2007.
