I remember Bob driving FV in the 70's while I was working corners at Pueblo and La Junta. I never met him, but heard many good things.

Remember watching him in Super V at the Glen! Race on Bob. Condolences to the rest of the Lazier's.
Met Bob, Buddy and Flinn at Mid Ohio Runoffs a few years back. Class family of guys from what I could see. Bob, overseeing everything that happened on track with Flinn. He will be missed. As said .. 'Race on Bob!'

Bob was a pioneer and major developer at Vail

I first met Bob at a SCCA race at Olathe ,Ks where we both ran FV. He was a class guy on and off the track and a tough competitor both as a driver and in directing the careers of his sons and grandson. This virus is a terrible thing. RIP Bob

I raced against him at the Runoffs (then ARRC) at Road Atlanta in FV in the early '70's. I didn't know him well, but he seemed like one of the "good guys." 81 is not old from my viewpoint (77). Makes me sad that COVID-19 got him. Reinforces that social distancing, etc., is a must until a vaccine becomes available.
RIP, Bob.

i know Racer et al have to speak of Bob's Indy career, but for me the memories are of his club racing success.
Flying through Turn 3 at Road Atlanta in VW powered formula cars.
Great guy! Raced with him in the 70s’ Gold Cup and Mini Indy FSV series, shared a few around campfires with him. He told me once the only thing he’d ever done that compared with racing at that time, was slalom skiing. Damn viruses!
Will be missed by all who knew him. A truly great guy!!! Darn shame it was that monster that got him..
Easy money was Bob's usual greeting to the rest of the FB racers in the very early '70's.
Sure proved that in 1971 when he won the FB [ later Atlantic, not 1 liter bike motors ] SCCA National Championship after his FV exploits and before his FSV championships before he went IndyCar racing.
Always a smile on this brave fine man.
Bob and Bill Alsup can race each other all day now.....
On meeting Buddy at Rd Atlanta a few years ago he confirmed that Easy Money was his fathers often heard comment while standing on top of a mountain about to plunge hell bent downhill with his sons alongside ....

Bob is the man who single handedly convinced me to buy my first FVee in 1979, I cherish the memories of racing with him, Buddy, and especially Jaques. We spent some of the finest times of my life, practicing, (much at PMI, running tires until cords were flapping), testing, traveling, and racing on many tracks. Bob was always upbeat, fun, and fast. He raced just about everything with wheels, and passed on that love to the sons and grandson. He owned the Tivoli Lodge in Vail, and I remember him passing out his card that had the phrase "Don't eat the yellow snow!" Still fast at 81 till this virus got him. Sadly missed!

Thank You, Mike.
We, too are devastated... I literally planned to call Bob this week, as we've done together for over 30 years.
Hope you are good.

I have a pic somewhere of Za Za Gabor and Bob with my wife at Trenton Speedway. Maybe 1976
Gabor was spokesperson for Montgomery Wards who was the Title sponsor.
Bob always the ambassador, walked us through the pits and and told us about FV as a starting point.
He will be missed
What a loss. One of the most genuine and down to earth racers I have ever met. Met him at the first SVRA Indy event when he wandered into our pit one evening while I was changing a head on my FF. He sat down and we chatted for over 2 hrs about FF, FV, his racing career and a shared passion for Skiing . Every year since then he would come and find me at Indy to say hi and chat. When he learned I was also a ski racer in my youth he invited me out to visit and ski a day. Unfortunately I was never able to take him up on the offer. Another of those lost opportunities. Although only a very casual and limited relationship I was awed by what a down to earth and friendly guy he was and will miss seeing him around Indy. Thought and prayers are with the family and Godspeed Bob.
Todd,
His son Jacques lives here in Rancho/Alta Loma. Next time you are out helping Kim, maybe look him up and say hello!

Thanks for beating me to posting that, Bob. I sent that link to Bob Lazier about a year ago.
Of particular sentiment is Bob celebrating with Diane about 17:40. I am gutted for her, she is a real sweetheart and always has been.
We were all friends with Gordon Smiley, too, whose death in 1982 had everything to do with Bob only running Indy once -- per insistence by Buddy when he was 14.
This is all still very fresh for my wife and I -- and very sad. I can't quite bring myself to writing a proper tribute, partly as it could take a few thousand words to do it justice. Hope to, though.
