    Default 2019 Runoffs VIR

I was reviewing the VIR Runoffs entry list this morning and note that there are NO entries as of yet for FC. FC will have its own race this year, but will be grouped with FA and FB for qualifying. Given the small population of those cars it should be a reasonable run group. The Pinto engine is up to power and entries are strong in FC if one looks at the various pro and regional series. Is there anyone committed to running or on the fence? My entry is in flux at the moment due to business obligations, but I hope to finalize and be entered shortly.

I noticed the same thing, which I found slightly alarming.

I'm on the fence. I'll most likely go as I haven't missed a runoffs in over 15 years, but with all the struggles I've had getting the new car sorted out I'm concerned about the time and cost involved if I'm not going to be fully competitive yet. My main purpose for going would probably be to support the class and provide an entry.

I sure hope to see a bunch of entries show up.

I understand the lack of urgency for a race 3 months away. I expect to see a dozen or so FC entries. There will be a pair from within the RiceRacePrep paddock spot.

So there is 5, without counting Minor, Moran, Allaer, or anyone from the SE or across the rest of the country. Should be a good race!

I know of 6 MZRs that would be interested in racing the runoffs but SCCA wont allow them. And the class is dying why ?

That's an unsupported generalized declaration. Grids are healthy. Signups are open early.

Maybe FC owners are being hesitant because they are PO'd. They just opened up sequential boxes and people night be thinking - what next, MZR? Might as well hang it up. Or they might be thinking SCCA is making FC a dumping ground so they run other series. This is how unsupported generalized declarations work.

What is the single most successful and consistent open wheel class? It doesn't change.

Unfortunately I can't make it, it's just to damn far for me. Without getting into a Runoffs schedule debate, it might work better for people like me on the fringe distance-wise if the event actually started on Monday, we can all get on the road sometime on Friday to get somewhere, but end the event on Saturday so we can get back home and to work on Monday.

As someone new to the class I will say I'm loving it. These cars are about the perfect mix of HP and speed to make them fun to drive yet doable by individuals, you don't need to be part of a team to get everything done. I've also found others in the class, like Brian Tomasi, to be incredibly helpful getting up and running. Hopefully those looking for a new car will consider FC and the class will grow, with the price of cars it's just such a great value.

Hopefully FC will have a good turnout this year and already looking forward to next years Runoffs at Road America.

If I read the above correctly, FC is on the cusp of losing 2020 eligibility (along with a few other classes). To say the grids are healthy is not what I see or the above table supports.

Its a great class (there's a reason I've been driving FC since 1985) and there are a lot of competitive cars available at very reasonable prices. There have been enough threads on Apexspeed detailing the class issues that we don't have to re-hash them here other than to say that controversy will tend to push potential new drivers to other classes. Anything to reverse that trend needs to be considered.

True. They need better than 10 cars per event average over the next 5 to guarantee eligibility. However, no guarantee the low participation classes will be eliminated from 2020 RunOffs, just gives them the tools to do so, should they choose to.

FE2 for example, isn't going anywhere and their numbers are lower than FC. That would be concerning to me if I was a FC competitor and the RunOffs were important to me.

Another way to look at this data is that participation in FC at majors events in declined less year-over-year than most of the other formula classes. The only formula classes that did better year-over-year were F500 and the combined FE1/2 group. (This is on a cars-per-event basis and excludes the runoffs.)

So back to the original question. Is there anybody else still on the fence, or planning on going that is not currently registered? It is still quite early but I'm only seeing 6 so far.

Only 2 behind the FF group. I'd love to see a few more, but I'd say this is a pretty good sign for the class.
