    Default NWFC at spokane

Just finished a great three day race weekend for NWFC in Spokane. I will leave it to others to chat about the racing but below you will see a note from a fan we met on Saturday:

    Dear Stephen,
I want to thank you and your Team for the kindness that you gave to my Grandson yesterday at the Spokane County Racewy! Of the many autographs Spencer collected for his flag (that he will be using for his 2nd grade show and tell tomorrow) your team was the most interactive with him! For that alone I am very grateful. When we returned home Spencer went straight to his tablet and looked for North West Formula Continentals and began watching your channel! When I woke up this morning guess what he was doing. Yes, he was watching North West Formula Continentals! I think you definitely have a new fan!

Thank you for sharing your kindness and passion with us. This memory will be saved in a scrapbook that I will hand make from the blank chipboard up that he will cherish and look back on for many years.

    Cindy (Anders) Mitchell

The Spokane triple race weekend saw 5 different race winners.

Fridays winners were Greg Coffin in his Mygale Ztec and Glen Yuen in his Pinto VD

Saturdays winners were defending Champion Gavin Aitken in his VD Ztec and new winner Jason Gillen in his Pinto VD. Andrew Dobbie set a short course lap record and finished second.

Sunday Andrew notched his inaugural NWFC win in his Ztec VD and Greg Coffin switched to his 99 Mygale pinto ( in mixed primer and duct tape livery) after his Ztec refused to run, and won the pinto race from last on the grid.

Scott Olsen and Noor Al-Khazraji completed their first NWFC races

You forgot to mention the new line through turn 1 I created on the short course on Saturday.

True enough, if we are lucky we will be able to see the "agricultural line" on google earth. That was a great drive after an early off.

    NWFC Spokane County Raceway Park
Round two, races 3, 4 and 5 of the 2019 NWFC season are in the books. Ten drivers took to the grid resulting in three different winners in both the Pinto and Ztec divisions. Congratulations to new winners Jason Gillen (pinto) and Andrew Dobbie (Ztec).
    NWFC RACE 3, May 31,2019
Friday morning qualifying went much as expected. Andrew Dobbie took pole in his RF02 ztec with defending 2018 NWFC Champion Gavin Aitken taking outside pole in his RF03, 0.07 seconds ahead of third qualifier Greg Coffin in his SJ07 Mygale. The fastest Pinto was Glenn Yuen, fifth overall, in his RF00.
A quick look at the qualifying times would have lead the casual observer to conclude that Andrew and Glenn should sweep the weekends races and score maximum points. However, sometimes things do not go as predicted.
As the five minute, warning sounded on pre-grid Coffin, in the three position, watched Aitken and Dobbie pulling out of their paddocks. He looked up at his wife/crew and said, “I got pole” as the two front row qualifiers were relegated to the back of the grid for not making the five. As the green flag dropped Coffin assumed the overall lead, but was eventually reeled in by the fast charging Dobbie. A couple of laps later Dobbie, sans rear camber shims, exited the track on turn two and surrendered the lead back to Coffin, who cruised to the overall win, followed by Aitken (2nd) and Steven Ross (3rd) in their Ztecs and Glenn Yuen (1st), Doug Connon (2nd) and Scott Olsen (3rd) in their Pintos.
    NWFC RACE 4, June 1, 2019
Saturday’s qualifying again saw Dobbie and Aitken lock out the front row followed by the ztecs of Coffin, Ross and Mike Webb. Newcomer Scott Olsen would snag the pinto pole. Friday Pinto winner Yuen failed to make qualifying.
Saturday’s race was on the short course, which eliminates turns one, two and three. It replaces them with a bumpy braking zone, a tight entry into the new turn one, thru cement barriers, followed by a 180 degree left hand sweeper requiring a very late apex to avoid agricultural work, drivers right, on exit. Fun and fast if you get it all right 19 times in a row.
Lap one of the race saw Ross go by Coffin and Dobbie exit the track midway thru turn one giving the lead to Aitken. Gavin made the best of his luck and proceeded to drive away from Ross and Coffin who battled for second overall. Coffin eventually passed Ross, and started pedaling hard as he knew, based on the amount of agricultural material on the track, Dobbie would soon be on his tail, and he was not disappointed. After several laps including driving side by side thru turns six and seven, and numerous late braking contests entering turn nine, Dobbie disposed of Coffin(3rd) and raced towards Aitken (1st) only to fall short by ½ car length at the finish. Along the way, Andrew (2nd) set the FC and overall short course lap record.
Friday’s Pinto winner Glen Yuen parked his ride in turn one a few laps from the checkered, and Jason Gillen (1st) found a significant amount of speed to post the fastest pinto time on his way to his first NWFC win. Pinto pole sitter Scott Olsen finished second ahead of third place Doug Connon.

    NWFC RACE 5 June 2, 2019
Sunday again saw Dobbie and Aitken close out the front row with pinto favorite Glenn Yuen posting the fastest eight valve lap, followed closely by Doug Connon.
Conspicuous by its absence was Coffin’s SJ07 Mygale, which had developed an ignition problem on the way to qualifying. While Coffin and J.D. McDermott of Front Range Motorsports attempted to cure the ztec along with help from Gavin Aitken and Mitch Egner, NWFC racer/crew member Dane Babkirk dashed off to pick up the scattered pieces of Coffin’s 99 pinto Mygale for assembly at the track. With an hour to go, before the green flag, the pinto arrived, and with all hands on deck, including 2017 Champion Wade Anderson the 99 Mygale was on pre-grid with minutes to spare. Thanks everyone.
When the green flag waved, Dobbie made good on his pole position and notched his first NWFC win followed by Gavin Aitken in second. Meanwhile at the back of the pack Coffin worked his way through the field into first in the pinto race. Coffin then proceeded chase down and pass Mike Webb’s ztec to maximize his points total for the race before settling in behind Steven Ross’s third place ztec that he shadowed for the remaining 8 laps of the race. After the race Coffin said “I was waiting for Steven to put a foot wrong so I could get through, it never happened, his lap times varied by less than 0.4 seconds per lap, it was a remarkably consistent drive under constant pressure, a real pleasure to watch.”
Headed to Mission Coffin leads in points followed by Aitken and Yuen
