Uncomfortably High Forum Traffic

Hey all, I'd like to apologize for the unusual outages lately, especially last night.

It seems as though there has been someone sending bots to ApexSpeed from the wild west Amazon AWS servers and the excessive traffic has forced the server to limit the traffic by blocking normal page loads. That's the reason you haven't been able to get to many pages on the site lately.

Our host has been systematically blocking Amazon IPs, but while it has reduced the page blocks, it hasn't seem to reduce the number of "bad bots" on the site right now. We don't know why anyone would be doing this, but we're working to reduce the server loads if not block all of these completely.

We're working on it, and hopefully we don't see those outages again like last night and Sunday morning.

Just data mining for targeted advertising. Imagine if you allowed political discussions on the site, how many search terms they'd be getting hits on.

Amazon sells out their spare server space to anyone with a dollar in their pocket, and it gets used for a LOT of bad stuff. It's not Amazon corporate using the servers, necessarily, it's nefarious BS more often than not. We're just going to block all of Amazon's IPs and be done with it. Baby with the bathwater, but they created their own mess, so it is what it is.

Boycott Amazon til they stop the nefarious bad apples messing up others.. Now that should stir the pot.

Seriously The Carters do a simply wonderful job for all of us Apexers and we should be grateful.

Add every corporate giant that's destroying fair play to that list.

I just laugh at people who buy from the bad guys to save a few precious points -- and then complain about our state of affairs. Our only vote left is in our back pocket.

Hope this resolves quickly for the Carters.
