Default IRD Two Car Open Stacker Trailer

    Trailer has been sold!
Headed out East to it's new home in Maine. Thank you Apexspeed.

1978 IRD (International Racing Designs) Team Tandem, two car open stacker trailer for sale.- Best suited for two small formula cars.- The only trailer I've ever used in my 40 yrs of racing.- Purchased in 78 as a kit and assembled with great care by my perfectionist brother.- Always garaged. The only time it's seen the elements was when it was at the race track.- Recently serviced Superwinch with new cable.- Corded remote winch controls.- Recently re wired brake and clearance lights.- Recently rebuilt electric brakes with new backing plates and slave cylinder assemblies.- Tires are in top shape and rotated yearly.- Recently replaced safety chains.- Storage for 2 car shelter. (Shelter included)- Tows superbly.

How the heck do you get the car to the 2nd level?
I see the winch and the bar the cable rides over, but I don't see the other part of that solution...

Looks like really long ramps pinned to the sides.

    Barry,
The cable goes over the bearing mounted cable saver bar, over the center support brace, and to the hookup point on the car. It's hard to see in the photos, but there's a nylon strip attached to the center support brace with keeps the cable from chaffing as it passes over. And, as David points out, the car travels up the 10 foot ramps pinned to the sides of the trailer. I hope that explains it adequately.

That's a really nice design. Fortunately, it's far enough away that I won't be tempted to equip myself for a second car...

    Tim,
You can haul it home after the FF50th next year. Or, if you're into planes, after the EAA AirVenture. Or, if you're a head banger, after Rock USA. Or, if you're a Jesus freak, after the Lifefest Christian Music Festival. Or if you're a goat roper, after Country USA. Then, you can go shopping for that second car, dare hey!

Hi Jack and thanks for the explanation. I missed the long ramps on the sides of the trailer. Looks really good and a great buy for someone towing a pair of cars, even a single car.

That is a great vintage rig. If you are selling the van too, consider putting it all on on Bringatrailer or something. Very neat...

Not interested for myself, but one thing you haven't mentioned is what width of car can fit...

You might want to post here, your complete package thats for sale before posting on a auction site and paying a sellers commission.
At the same time I agree with EricP, Bringatrailer is a great site with a huge following . GLWTS

    Tom,
    Another great idea.

    -The basic trailer dimensions are......
    -18' tongue to tail
-runners and ramps are 10' long
-outside width of runners is 6'
    -distance between runners is 3'
    -height between levels is 3'-3"
    -3000 lb capacity

Just another mention that Jack is a very honest and stand up guy. You can be sure that his description of the condition is accurate.

Sent a fellow your way, seems you know his brother.
Would it be wide enough for a Spec Racer (Renault)?
Could an axle be removed - not loading a second car?

And, I"m curious - The PVC tubes. You use to haul Hobie Cats and stow sails?

    Cheers - Jim

    Jim,
I've been in contact with your friend. He seemed interested until the spouse said no.
I believe a SR would fit. We've had a Lola T492 S2 on the lower level in the past.
I recommend leaving it as a double axle.
The PCV is for shelter pole and tarp storage.

This trailer looks really nice. Is there any rust or paint bubbles?

Also, what is the price for the van and do you have any images of it to share?

    Thanks!

    No rust or paint bubbles.
i hope to "officially" put the camper van up for sale later this year. First, I need the clean it out, clean it up, and take some pictures. At the moment, it's outside, buried in snow, in January, in Wisconsin. I'm gonna wait a few months before I tackle that job. I'll take some photos then. I don't know what price to put on it. In a quick website check, other rustless Ford vans of this age are getting $7K or more.
