As part of the 2019 Pittsburgh Historic Races at Pittsburgh International Race Complex (PittRace) and the 37th Annual Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix at Schenley Park we will be conducting a Mini 50th Anniversary Formula Ford Festival. The festival will be conducted over two consecutive weekends of July 13 and 14 at PittRace and July 20 and 21 at Schenley Park. Currently the Formula Fords are scheduled for a 2 day event (Saturday and Sunday) at PittRace and our own race group over the two days at Schenley Park.
Each of these races are unique in their challenges and rewards. Both events are fully charitable events that benefit local Pittsburgh Charities including the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Merarkey Allegheny Valley School. The Pittsburgh Historic Races at PittRace will occur on a challenging 2.8 mile 19 turn permanent road course. This modern facility is a favorite for both fans and drivers. The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix at Schenley Park is truly a unique event consisting of a 20 turn temporary road course through the streets of Pittsburgh’s Schenley Park. This course is a throwback to the origins of road racing in the United States. Drivers may enter one or both of these events. Over the two weekends upwards of 100,000 people will get the opportunity to watch you race. There are also numerous exciting events associated with the races. Please visit our website http://www.pvgp.org for more details.
As there are many different rule sets for vintage series and to be inclusive for this Formula Ford Mini Festival, most cars will be accepted ‘as raced’ per the rules of a recognized vintage racing series. Cars must have a log book to be accepted. General rules are simple. All cars must have a Ford Engine per SCCA or Monoposto rules. Sorry, it’s a Formula Ford Festival, not Formula Honda. Cars must run on vintage Formula Ford treaded tires. There will be a class within the overall race group for most Formula Fords manufactured between 1969 and 1999. General classifications will be as follows:
Historic Fords - Eligible cars are basically the first generation Formula Ford (Vintage Formula Ford) cars generally fitted with front radiators, outboard suspension and brakes.
Club Fords - Eligible cars are basically the 2nd generation formula ford (club ford) cars campaigned in 1973 through 1981. They are 1981 or older “second generation” designs with outboard suspension (shocks) on at least one chassis end.
Early Modern Fords (Post Club Ford) – Eligible cars are cars manufactured between 1982 and 1989 with a distinct chassis mid rail on which the front and rear roll structures are mounted.
Modern Formula Fords – Eligible cars are cars manufactured between 1984 and 1999 with a ‘tub type’ tube frame. This classification includes the Swift DB 1 and other cars with this type of construction.
Awards and Podiums will be provided for all four car classifications at each event.
