I've seen pictures of this car and it's very nice! My T326 aspires to look this good! Sounds like a great deal for a Runoffs winner and would be a great car for the FSV 50th anniversary celebrations in 2020!

The engine is basically a 2.0L type 4 air-cooled VW but in reality measures about 1991cc's.

Yep, that's it. We built head cooling scoops since that picture was taken. I don't have a picture of them but one of when we were making the molds.

    Default 2.0 Air cooled legal?

I recall these were originally 1600's. Is a 2.0 liter "legal" in vintage?

A check of SCCA's Media Guides says 1975 FSV was won by Fred Phillips in an Elden Mk14B.
Lola won in '76 with the late Herm Johnson and '78 with Mike Yoder.
    Just sayin'.....

Current owner passed along that info. I may have the year wrong but he told me directly that it had won a RunOffs at some point. We can provide proof of the chassis' history.
Owner was just here and said it was '76. He has log books from day one, picture of the car on the track at the runoffs when it won (cover photo on SportsCar) and lots of other documents and pictures.

I don't know who won what or when or where, but the Lolas from this time period were really good cars, and very good looking, certainly in comparison to the other FSVs of that time. Even better with the polished lower side panels!

They just looked like what race cars were supposed to look like!

'76 with Herm makes sense especially to be on the cover of SportsCar as Herm was on the cusp of being graduated to Indy Cars for a while, a rising star, before he was THE helmet paint guy !

Here are some pretty cool pictures from the event. Unsure if there are any of this car, maybe the red one? I think I saw some red paint on the chassis somewhere and the spare nose is red and has the wings.

This is my first post here, so don't want to offend anyone.

I suspect this is not Herm's winning car from 1976. Hermie only used shovel noses he built and sold himself, and his Runoffs winner also used a T326-style, stubby tail.

I cannot get the photo link to work, but... by "red car," it's likely that's Rick Villate from Lake Forest, IL. He had a blue helmet and possibly a white sun visor, and I think ran #86 as he did in occasional Pro races he ran. I'd know in a second if I could see the photos, Rick was also a friend of mine as are/were everyone I reference here.

The T324 Rick used in '76 got a 3rd at the Runoffs.

If this is Rick's car, this may be your lucky day, provenance-wise... because Rick bought that car from Carl Haas, via Fast Eddie Miller, and that car won the Pro Series in 1975!

Eddie remains a dear friend of mine, and having seen his files I suspect he still has info if not the chassis number for that car. If you want me to help, please PM me (presuming I know how to use it!). Otherwise, I think the Admin here knows how to reach me.

I would love to know this was Eddie's car. Maybe I could convince him to buy it and return it to its former glory of red with a big #1 on it.

I was able to view the Flickr photos today.

The red Lola is not Rick Villate's.

The current owner has a complete history of the chassis and will be sharing some with me in the next week or so. I'll post as I receive it.

    Default Herm's 324

I owned Herm's 324 complete with several log books in the early 2000's. By then it was converted to water cooled on carbs but still had the sports car nose. I'll try to find the name of the guy I sold it to.

Default As for engine size and Vintage racing

I own a 324 ex-Bertil Roos/Jerry Jolly, currently I have an air cooled 2.5 ltr Type 4 VW engine. SVRA allows me to run for no points and usually with the Atlantics....but get to run and that is what counts. I would love to downsize the engine, but current is bullet proof and is a hoot to drive....plus, getting ready to market my car in the spring... so, maybe the next owner will do so....

Very cool, I believe yours is the same T324 I saw Bertil win the Pro race with at Pocono in 1976.

If memory serves, Scott Ovel won in '77 in another T324. Yoder had a T620 in Pro races, but *may* have used his old T326 at the Runoffs (I missed that year).

Off-topic, I have great memories of your BT40, Mike. I was a young reporter then, out of Wisconsin, and spoke to you many times in that era. Thanks for buying my magazine.

Yoder also used the Air Cooled car to win the 78 runoffs.

The guy first across the line fell afoul of the tech shed.
