Default Best Club ford?? thinking about restarting vintage or???

Hate to start this, but a serious question? If you were an old open wheel racer, and thinking about one more time, and club ford was the class of choice, what would be your very best car to race? Thanks in advance for your input.

If you want handling, I'd say a Zink Z-16.

If you want straight line speed and almost as good handling, VD RF81 (although I haven't had a chance to compare the two together)

Garey is right, both are good cars. Consider a Crossle too. They are quick, great handling, forgiving and easy for both a newcomer or an experienced driver. Great parts and setup support as well.

I say any well sorted, prepped and developed car driven well can compete at the pointy end

    Default Best CF

My vote goes out for the Van Dieman. I have owned 2 rf 81s and a Crossle 35! I liked both RF81 cars more than the Crossle. I have an RF 79 now which I have had for 3 years and never raced yet! But it will be at least ready for 1 of the 50th events. I bought this car because I think it is the best looking CF out there!

50th at Elkhart Lake; registration opens November 13th!
Race isn't until September 2019 so your car should be ready by then :-)

If I could not find a RF81, a nice Crossle or Zink would be a good second choice.

    Default Zink

There is a Zink on BAT now. But then cars tend to sell for too much on that site.

Although I agree, this one sold for $11,100. That doesn’t strike me as high:

And with a trailer! If I would have seen this, I would have done a bad thing.....

(although the first year of Z10 was 1974 and I would imagine the "C" iteration was some time after that)

From what I could see from the photos, it was definitely a "C" version, likely 75-76.

Default Thanks for input, The PRS for sale here?

We saw the zink, was probably worth what it went for, or less. Given the input so far, anybody have thought about the PRS for sale here? Know nothing about them, but sounds like a good package. How about how they would compete?

I made the mistake of driving a Caldwell hard, and when I ruined it I felt a lot more guilty than I will if I ruin the Crossle'. A PRS is even more rare and special.
    Caldwell D9B - Sold
    Crossle' 30/32/45 Mongrel - Sold
RF94 Monoshock - here goes nothin'

They aren't museum pieces, they are meant to be raced.

As was said earlier, any car well set up and sorted out could be competitive. Did you not see that beautiful Dulon that sold on here less than three weeks ago? I believe it was in your backyard.

I’ve driven 79-81 VD, Crossle 35 and 45, Royale RP-31, and 80 PRS. Any of them, including the Zink will take you as far as your talent will go. All things being equal (car prep and motor), it’s not the car. It’s the DRIVER.

I believe that is why Formula Ford became the world's most successful class; it's mostly about the driver!
I have driven 4 FF's in the last 20 years and I've been consistently mediocre in all of them :-)

Yes those were fun days, a lot of chassis builders, and a lot of good ones. Top engines were Quicksilver, Shankle (on the west coast) and Stimola on the East coast. I had a Stimola, it was first rate
