How close to central Texas will the East/West challenge race next year? Is it all wrapped up for 2002?

The last race was held at Road America several weeks ago and it was great to see so many cars entered. There was close racing and I believe everyone had a good time.

Don't know what Steve's plans are yet, but he does plan on running it again next year in Cendiv.
This was the second year and it's growing nicely.

He has a business plan that would work in other parts of the country...all you have to do is ask him.

Here is the 2002 FF/CFF East vs West Challenge business plan. As Tom Christ observes, it could be easily replicated in other areas of the country.

    SCHEDULE AND FORMAT
    - four double regionals for a total of eight races
    - two race weekends on the east side of Lake Michigan, and two on the west
    - "traditional" CENDIV regional dates
    - approximately one event per month from May through August
    - avoid back-to-back weekends if possible
    - single race group for FF/CFF (Road America exempted)
    - 36 to 48 mile races (longer the better)
    - reserved paddock space for Formula Ford drivers and crews

    RECRUITING
    - draw primarily from SCCA but also from Midwestern Council, Waterford Hills, etc
    - develop a recruiting base of 60 drivers
    - receive entries from 80% of the recruiting base
    - average 27 cars per event
    - 10% enter all four events (6)
    - 20% enter three events (9)
    - 30% enter two events (9)
    - 20% enter one event (3)

    DRIVER AND TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
    - standard CENDIV regional championship points scale: 12-9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
    - plus 1 point each for fastest qualifier and fastest race lap
    - individual drivers championships for FF and CFF
    - East vs West team championship based on sum of FF and CFF driver points
    - East team: CENDIV Area 4 plus NEDIV, SEDIV
    - West team: CENDIV Area 5 plus MWDIV, SWDIV, RMDIV, NPDIV, SPDIV

    SPONSORSHIP AND AWARDS
    - 10 cash/merchandise/services award sponsors per race
    - $1000 total awards per race
    - cash/merchandise/services awards equally available to FF and CFF entrants
    - driver and team championship awards based on finding a series sponsor

    SURPRISE AND DELIGHTS
    - EWC series decals for all entrants
    - EWC driver info packet at all events
    - 1 "special achievement" trophy per weekend: hard charger, fast master, longest tow, etc
    - "class picture" photo op for drivers and crews
    - pre-season program with driver bios, sponsor ads, schedule, track maps, etc
    - Saturday evening tech talks and/or cookouts

We did not hit all the numbers in the 2002 business plan but we came pretty damn close. Everyone seemed to be really happy with this year's EWC so I don't anticipate any significant changes for the 2003 series.

Until we have minimum of 25 entries per race, no races will be added to the calendar. Quality, not quantitiy. One area that needs attention is to increase the recruiting pool of drivers on the east side of Lake Michigan.
