    I am considering buying a F500/600 for club racing. What should I look for, 493,494,593,or 600? Thanks

    Steve,

    A lot depends on your budget and if you want to autocross, just have fun on the track or win the Runoffs. There is consensus that the 593 and 600 are the fastest road racing packages in the class, but strong disagreement over which of those has an advantage. If you are interested in the 2-stroke/CVT drive train there is a lot of great info at f500.us.

    I've been in the class since late 1997 and I've driven both packages. If you're wanting to do autocross don't waste your time with the MC package. It's not going to keep up with the two stroke guys on any course. If you're wanting to go road racing there's two ways to do it. 1) You buy a car to race or 2) You buy a car to win with. There's a lot of difference in the two choices no matter what engine package you go with.

    If you like to tune and tinker with the engine package then I would strongly suggest the two-stroke package. It has several variables that you'll be able to tune (A lot of different combinations with the clutches alone). The carbs, pipe length, drive clutch and driven clutch. The drive clutch has a spring with weights and the secondary has a spring with a helix. Between the two clutches you'll have control over any aspect you'd like. Note: The two stroke tends to crack the frame around the engine bay so you'll need to weld that area up over the winter each year.

    If you're like me I prefer the MC package. I don't have to touch the engine for tuning and the engine lasts around three times longer than the two-stroke from what I've experienced as well as the other 7 cars we've built has experienced.

    I have borrowed some information from another website that will allow you to see what another guy that was looking into the class found out. I have put my changes in Bold that differs from his.
