    Default Brabham BT21 Clone

A great project for someone looking for a BT21 FB at half the cost. The car was built in England, designed after a BT21, with hints of BT18 also incorporated into the build. Raced for several years in the UK before finding it's way over to the States. The fiberglass body, wheels, and a few other bits are original BT21 parts.

The sale includes the car as a roller, with Hewland 5 spd, and I also have a set of Revolution wheels and most of a Kent 1600 FF motor if someone wanted to build it back as a vintage FF.

The body was a bit shabby, so I sourced a better BT21 shell, which will go with the car. I have a brand new windshield surround.

Currently disassembled for easy transport , I can assist with crating and shipping and may be able to deliver, depending on scheduling. I can also reassemble to roller status in a few hours if needed.

    PRICE REDUCED - 19,500.

Sweet deal. I'd be on it like a fat kid on a cupcake if I didn't already have one

I can also add a fresh Twin Cam, all steel bottom end, ready to install with a package price of 37K if someone wanted to go the TC route rather than an enhanced Kent 1600.

    Default Bt21

In the early 70's there was a BT21/23 clone made called a Centaur. It was basically a BT21 with the longer upper front suspension arm like the BT23. Not sure how many were constructed but the same guy also made wheels. He and a sprint car star Rick Goudy made the tooling. Rick sold to the circle track crowd and the other guy to the sports car group. Eventually he sold the tooling to Bill Jongbloed and that is where this company was started. Gary Goddard bought the Centaur operation but I'm not sure if he ever made one as by then the BT29, BT38 and 722 March pretty well made them obsolete. There is your history lesson!

Here is an Autosport member posting about the car back in 2006 when it was for sale in the UK.
Don't think it is one of the "Centaurs", but thanks for the lesson. I hope there's not a test unless it's open book

" I'm almost certain that I know this car !
It is - if I'm correct - a Brabham 'clone' built by Northern Ireland club racer Ross Raymond in the late sixties for the now defunct Kirkistown 'Club Specials' formula which was, in many ways, similar to Monoposto.
I spoke to Mike Gue yesterday, and he tells me that a mechanics name is on the side of the top body section. The name in question is that of Harry Bingham (now no longer with us) who lived in the same area as Raymond and worked on a number of 'specials' during the sixties - raced too I think. "

    Hi Gordy,

Here is what I know about this car:. This is a Rev'o'ray Mk2, it was original built by a guy named Ray Thomas for the Mono Posto racing series in England.

Awesome ! Thanks Ian, that's definitely the car. Funny that they glassed in the windscreen and painted it. We stripped the body down and found the windscreen intact, although quite scratched up. I have the correct screen along with the spare body shown that will go with the car. Wish I had that wing.

Update: After spending some time researching Ian's info, I have been able to determine that this is indeed a Rev'o'Ray, raced by Ray Thomas in Monoposto, with a 1600 w/Webers. I've also sent an email to Ray's son who has posted about the car on 10/10ths website. The bearded guy in the photos is Neil Fletcher, who tested the car on a country road and wrote a short blog about his experiences.

    More to follow.

Here's a bit more about the car I received in an email from the builder's son, Christian.

" My dad has now seen the pics.

He's 99% sure what you've got there is the Revoray MkII. He built 3.

The II was built in our garage from scratch in our garage in Devon, England in 1970-1971. Initially it was used for hillclimbs in and around south west England, but it was built with circuit racing in mind.

It's first circuit race was in 1973 at Brands Hatch, Kent, England.

Dad went on to build the III in 1974, which won the Monoposto championship in 1977.

We believe the II went to Ireland and competed in hillclimbs and sprints with Neil Fletcher Racing, and have heard of a quote saying that it was the fastest thing he'd ever driven! "

Was this car originally an FF? Or, was it an FB?

It is an FB car. Run with a highly modified Kent 1600 with dual Webers.

I have had a couple of inquires about the Lotus Twin Cam, and if I would sell it separately. Here is the spec on the motor, it is freshly rebuilt, and not run since. Built more for reliability than absolute HP. Pic above.

Lotus Twin Cam race engine, 170HP engine. New forged JE pistons, plateau honed bores, steel piston rings, coated main and rod bearings, steel main caps, line bored, polished steel forged crank, new Carillo steel rods, race cams ,valves and springs, titanium retainers, light weight buckets, custom aluminum dry sump pan, updated cartridge type water pump. Not run since refresh, done by P & M MotorSport out of Colorado.

$17,500 PM or email if interested.

    Default Brabham

    Hi Gordy
    Interesting story about your car.
Just a long shot--You wouldn't happen to have any Brabham engine mounts from this project would you?
