Default Does anyone recognize this race artwork or car?

Eight or ten years ago I was at a garage sale in Columbus (a sorta hidden high end area) and found and bought the attached artwork. It appears to be oil on canvas. The woman selling it said her very ill husband “commissioned” it and that he was a driver. But I didn’t recognize the name so I assume not someone terribly famous. I have since forgot. Anyone recognize the artwork, car, or artist (appears to say Candace)?

    Hmmmmm,

I think it's a highly stylized CAN-AM car. My first thought with the color was a Mclaren but the hint of a center line hump on the front of it rules that out. Maybe a Lola?

sure looks like an open-wheeled car to me.

    stylized f-1 or f5000.

The two openings in the sports car nose remind me of Brabham BT-45:

Yeah, that front looks very similar especially the nose center section. Note the side mirrors on the painting. I’m assuming those big stand-off mirrors aren't something an artist would add if they weren’t already there...

Well, I'm sticking with CAN AM

Big high mirrors like that were common in 1st generation CAN AM's.

I also looked through this site which has a pretty good selection of automotive fine art:

Another fine art site with more stylized painters at work:

I would guess at something like a Lola T332 F5000 car. I don't see a CAN AM at all as they invariably had full span rear wings.

I find it interesting that the ONLY thing "in focus" is the driver's helmet/face (first pic). Everything else is blurred. Also, it kinda looks like a 'mirage' type painting .. the blob at the top could be a land speed car (or maybe a helicopter?) in the background rather than part of the foreground car.

Google "candace automotive art" and you'll find a Candace Nalepa. Style seems similar.

If it is her she painted better before, if you know what I mean. She doesn't sign her work anymore too, which is odd. IMHO

Agreed. The more I look at her stuff the more I think it’s not “my CANDACE”.

    no fenders

airbox and mirrors are reminiscent of early 5000/f1 cars

style could well be "candace" at a different point of career

i suspect the whodunit won't be easy to suss out.
