For Sale 1981 Tiga SC 81 Mariah Sports 2000

    $$ PRICE REDUCED ... $21,500 OBO

Nice vintage S2 and ready to race.

Purchased via Apex Speed ad in July last year. Prepped for, and raced at SVRA COTA in Nov. '15. Prior to COTA we did a thorough going over, installed (3) new sets of Hewland gears and new Avons. At COTA, we had a water jacket crack develop in an exhaust port but made most of the sessions and the race using a block sealant.

After COTA, we freshened the motor and replaced the head with a fresh Ivey head assembly with the updated cam. Zero time on the engine other than (5) heat cycles in the shop. The owner purchased a 2L sports racer and says "move it out".

    From the original Apex ad:

Mercer motor (with the good rods and pistons)
    Gyro diffuser
    Stack dash
    custom sub-floor
    MSD w/rev limiter
    Prince rear subframe

    steel motor mounts
    new shift linkage
new upper to lower cross member links
    refurbished gearbox
    aircraft wire used throughout
    new brake rotors

For COTA, we installed (3) new Hewland gear sets so (7) total (long & short)

I spent a LOT of time developing the car. I still think it is one of my favorites to drive.

Here is my ad from several owners ago.... Not sure if it still looks like this or is in this condition. http://s2racing.yuku.com/reply/15755...ar#reply-15755

Pics from when I was driving it. (Autobahn, Grattan, Gingerman, BHF. etc) http://www.jahnautosport.com/index.p...id=2&Itemid=54

I have no involvement in this sale except to see what was a good car to be used and driven.

Question; What are these like to drive? There seems to be a lot of older guys like me that race these after coming from years of FF and FC. Why? They look really cool, and seem to be sturdy and safe. What are lap times in comparison to the FCs that share the engine? What tires are used, and at what cost? I paddocked next to one of these at COTA (SVRA) last fall and the guy seemed to be having a blast.....It appears to be something that can be raced for less than modern F2000s with good fields in both SCCA and Vintage organizations. A lot of the guys that race these have tremendous talent and can make them haul the mail. What are operating costs?

My old car. Wish I could afford to buy it back.
To any potential buyers wondering about the body. I have all the molds for the car and can have pieces made as needed.
    Great car!

These things are sweethearts. Especially Tigas... What I am writing about are typically the older cars (1984-1997) that run in a majority of vintage groups throughout the country.

The cars are comfortable, safe, rugged and reasonably quick for being larger and about 350 lbs heavier than a Pinto FC in race trim. They're not quite as quick as the FC's of course, but cornering speeds are similar (even though they're not aero cars) and braking is terrific. Not too many running SCCA at all anymore, because the class is no longer recognized, although some folks run as P2 cars with no changes from the last published spec in the SRCS from 2012. All the front runners use either Steve Knapp Elite or Sandy Shamlian/Erik Oseth Quicksilver Pintos with the Elgin FC cam and iron heads.

Folks use FC tire sizes, from Avon, Hoosier or Goodyear. About $1000-$1100/set. Many middle to front of the middle third folks get two weekends, although the top five front runners can easily use two sets per weekend! Because the cars are big and heavy for the size tire, wear can be high, especially if you slide these things around like they like to do. Well, at least the early (outboard suspension cars) do...

Lap times are within a few to several seconds of the front running Pinto FC's, generally. Front running vintage Sports 2000 cars at weight in proper SCCA (2012) spec do 1:58-1:59 at the Glen and VIR, 2:13-2:14 at Sebring, high :51's to low :53's at Lime Rock, 1:29-1:30 at Road Atlanta, 2:19-2:21 at COTA, et cetera...

They're fast, fun and there is a good place to run them most areas of the country.

    Peter,

I agree. I can't seem to contact the owner, however. Do you know him?

If you have any other suggestions, for cars, let me know.

    Thanks

    Default Try...

    Try: speedstarinc@sbcglobal.net (don, shop owner)

FYI: I agree with Peter. I “looked” at this car via email and the web. It seems like a great ride/value. I didn’t pursue because a FC popped up locally for me that I couldnt pass up.

Someone better buy it before I decide to buy it back... assuming I can come up with the financing....
