    Default 1998 Swift 008a

Swift 008a for sale. Ex pro car out of the west coast has CART tag, SCCA logbook finished 8th in 1997 runoffs. I have run it with SVRA at Homestead, Pocono and Indy. Tub in great shape with the Swift updates. Rear shocks were rebuilt by Olsson Eng.
Toyota 4AGE from Loynings with about 2.5 hrs on it. This was a top shelf engine dynoed at 246.6 hp.
Hewland NST gear carrier was redone by Olsson Eng before I went to Homestead, Extensive rebuild included new gearchange drum. The box itself had new bearings and diff setup at the same time. About 20 extra gearsets and a couple used dogrings included.
The fuel cell bladder was replaced 4 yrs ago along with the fire system- very expensive item and what a pain to change! Also with new pump and filters .
Belts are good till the end of this year. AIM dash with GPS.
The paint is mostly fresh other than the tub itself and the new spare nose. I bumped the nose at Indy 2 yrs ago and bought a new one repaired the old one and it is on the car now.
Two extra sets of wheels and one new set of unmounted Hoosier FA tires.
Some spares- brake pads -rotors-side pod-rear wing-seat for a smaller person- couple a arms- steering rods-misc small stuff.
This is a really good car that I've thrown a lot of money at , however after being treated for cancer last year I find I can no longer drive it like it should be driven. It's hard to give up on your dreams but I am happy just to be here. The car is way too nice to just be a garage queen , so I hope someone buys it and does well with it. I ran the car 2 weeks ago so you could jump in and drive it.
    Asking $34,000

Default 1998 Swift 008a - Seems like a reasonable price

    Hi Pop,

Sorry to hear about your cancer scare, which is all I hope it is, that Swift is sure a beautiful car! At least you did get it out a few times which I would categorize as "Living the Dream", particularly at Indy. I loved the Citation FC that you had before this car and that counts as "LTD" too. I would love to have had that car as well as this one. I hope that you can get back out again in something a little less demanding like that or some other car. I bet your racing buddies miss you already. Best of luck with the sale and everything else.

    Tom

    Default 4age

Beautiful car. Tell me, what is the life of these engines? I am old school and used to BDD's so curious if they are comparable, better, etc. What is the approximate rebuild costs for one?

    Thanks,

    Lee

Life of the engine can be controlled by the driver to some extent. If you run it up to 10,500 all the time you can figure about 1200 miles, if you shift at 9,500 you can stretch the engine to 2000 mi. I am just running for fun and normally short shift it. I have run some vintage races with it and it is an absolute blast to drive, there's not a bunch of cars in this class so I see no need to beat the engine. I just had Loynings refresh the engine and it cost me $7500. It dynoed at 246.6 hp. Being that it's a Toyota parts are pretty easy to come by and probably (maybe ?) cheaper than the BDD. BTW, the engine makes a beautiful sound !

So is it a pretty easy car to drive fairly quickly? Does it have any idiosyncrasies or is it a confidence-inspiring car? What does it use for engine management and what sort of instrumentation package is it equipped with?

I found it to be a very easy car to drive, but I was driving a Citation FC before. I felt that it was very controllable and fairly easy to set up. I don't know what experience you have , but you need to separate mechanical grip from aero grip when you are setting it up. Same as the FC. The huge tires give loads of grip and G forces, hit the brakes hard and it feels like the hand of God reaching down and grabbing you ! It is one of those cars that when sold I will truly miss. What an incredible experience to drive.
All setup sheets , manual and log book included. The engine is fuel injected, I think it's a Motec but would have to go look. AIM dash w/GPS all working as it should, I have a download cable for it but just never bothered with it. I would just get in drive it and have fun.

Did I mention that this car has autoblip? Makes downshifting under hard braking almost seamless.

Done. BTW, I was showing the car today and realized it's a Pectel ECM not a Motec.
