The car was purchased at an auction in Monterey and was completely refurbished the car and it was approved for VARA racing. Mike Adams (Canadian Champ for this class) was an early owner of the car. No log books,crash history, but there is a Chassis plate stamp on the car.

That is an old car I thought was lost that I sold in 1988. I might be all over that if I hadn't decided to retire from driving. I will provide one correction that the Canadian Champ was actually a Western Regional Champion in 1987. I don't recall a Canadian National series in 1987.

Gents;
We recently received our new home build estimate from our contractor, and it doesn't look good. Sadly, I need to liquidate most of my toys, the first is the Lotus.
I paid $13k, plus $1550 to get the car here. I need to get $13,750 to feel slightly good about it.

Gents;
I have what I believe is the car's history, and I have corresponded with all but Tony Reyes about the history. I believe all log books are in the possession of Tony, and thus, no reliable history. The following is what I filed with the Lotus Formula Ford Register.
Type: 1969 Lotus 61 Type E Lotus Plate #: 61-FF-169 Frame #: AM-180 Engine # : LH 287 Gearbox Type: Hewland MK 6 Gearbox #: LC 60 I, 9.31 Previous Owner Information: Don Loomis, Tucson AZ, late 1994 - 2017 Previous Owner Information: Tony Reyes, CA, 1988 – 1994 Previous Owner Information: Mike Adams, CN, 1970 - 1988 NOTE: Attach an addendum listing additional owners. Present Condition (being raced, under restoration, etc.): Under Restoration Plans for Car (Vintage Racing, Club Racing, Concourse, Investment, etc.): Vintage Racing Known History of Car: Canadian Western Regional Champion, 1987 Owners Information: First Name: Richard (Rick) Last Name: Iverson Address #1: 3857 Indian Trail Address #2: Unit 314 City: Destin State/Province: Florida Zip / Postal Code: 32541 Country: USA E-mail Address: msengineering@cox.net Home Phone: N/A Cell/Mobile: (850) 865-1806 FAX: N/A Work: N/A Work: N/A Website: N/A Comments / Additional Information: None
Addendum
Lotus plate number has been re-stamped and is actually 61-FF-179 (not 169 as Rick lists)
I did not own the car until 1985.
Previous owner was Rhys Williams, Regina, Saskatchewan
The Lotus 61 was primarily raced in our region in Gimli, Manitoba or Calgary, Alberta.
Previous owner prior to Williams is unknown, but I will ask him as we are still friends.
From memory only .... there was a decal on the nose at one time, "Green Valley Car Club" and Williams said the Lotus 61 was part of the livery disposal from the Jim Russell race school cars when they changed to Van Diemens.
Interesting photo from Gimli attached, Williams is in the lotus in row two behind the Eagle.

Car #85 - Ex-Gord Leach car from the same Russell livery as Car #95 - as I acquired the car from Williams)
Mike;
Any help in contacting Rhys Williams will be greatly appreciated, as I would like to piece the history of this car together. Still haven't heard from Tony Reyes yet about the log books. I can only presume he has them.
Interesting photo of Gimli. I believe the Gent in the Eagle is Bruce Drenth. I have known and raced with Bruce for well more than twenty years. The plane in the background lost power on all engines from fuel starvation. They made a movie about it staring William Devane called Falling From The Sky: Flight 174.
Any my help is well appreciated.

Front row is Bruce Drenth in the Eagle and Richard Cove in a Lola.
When I see Williams next I will ask for his recollections, but I have been down this road before and he didn't recall much.
When I sold the car to Reyes I gave him everything and didn't even photocopy the log book. There was also a verification of a build record from Lotus, I think provided by Peter Denty back in the early days of the Lotus Formula Ford Registry when Vern Jacques created the registry. The build record confirmed matching Holbay valve cover tag for engine and the Hewland case number. The record also confirmed Lotus number, Arch Motor frame, even the original colour and original purchaser. That would confirm the Jim Russell race school.
I do have some of the old LFFR newsletters as well as the Monoposta Newsletter from those days and might have more tidbits in there that would shed more light on the car. There is already a copy of the LFFR newsletters on-line somewhere in case my archive is packed too deep in storage.
Now in the digital age, I scan everything, archive everything, and usually share it with fellow motorsport history enthusiasts so it won't be lost forever.
A couple photos, one in my livery and one in Reyes color.

Car is sold. Going to Kansas.
The Lotus is in fact back in Kansas and will be at the Hawk next year in traditional green with yellow stripe. Any more pics or history is much appreciated. Thanks-Brian
