Default MyChron 3, MyChron 4, Evo3... Too many options

So what is everyone using? In the process of building a new car and starting to acquire bits and pieces...

I tried to search but couldn't really come up with a thread that is informative. Some of the features of MyChron 5 is nice with the GPS, but at nearly $600. I've found a couple of MC 3's on ebay for $100~. Thinking about getting one of those and upgrading in the future...

Our most popular AiM data systems are the Evo4S-GS Dash combo, and MXL-2 But it sounds like you are looking for out-of production used systems, or systems intended for karting, as among the systems you listed, only the Mychron 5 is a current production system.

You will find the best information about AiM products from the factory website: http://www.aim-sportline.com/

If you can swing it, get a GPS system. Dealing with the beacon is a PITA. I've left it at the track several times. Lucky to have gotten it back each time.

I agree. A few years ago I worked with Ellen at Veracity to add the GPS option to an AIM Micron3 XGLog. It wasn't cheap (sorry, don't remember the cost), but it sure was nice not having to worry about the beacon, its battery charge, etc.

Keep an eye out for an AIM MXL Pista and a SmartyCam. The SmartyCam includes built in GPS and renders and syncs your data into the video. Works great. Veracity (The Fergusons) sometims have used systems for a fair price. Their service is outstanding.

If you are going for lowest possible cost, you can use a Mycron unit from a kart, preferably using GPS if you can. The RPM signal is important, wind extra turns around the coil wire to get a good signal to the Mycron. I was able to merge data with video using RaceRender. It worked well, but was time consuming.

No relation other than happy customer.

Since you're dealing with an F600... for RPM, usually you're best off using the ECU output. Not sure what motor you have, but have done this numerous times with Suzukis (both my 1000 and my teammate's 600).

+1 to GPS; have an older MyChron3 in my ITB car, and sucks to deal with beacon and beacon shift. Only way to go these days.

Gear info can also be pulled in, if you're smart about it, but usually requires some fiddling if you haven't reflashed your engine ECU to remove the top speed/top gear limiter!

+1 also for RaceRender, love that app - I use it to pull together my two video cameras and the data stream from my DL1 (much more complex system, don't recommend for beginners). Can do some really cool stuff. But you do have to develop a system to synch data. Some examples at my youtube channel - www.youtube.com/924RACR

I have an AIM MyChron 3 EVO4 with MXL dash and GPS. This is hooked up with a GSXR 1000. GPS is a must. I get all the basic data while driving displayed to me (oil Temp, Batt Voltage, Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Gear Indicator, RPM, Speed, Lap Time, Lap counter). Idiot lights can be customized (low Oil P, Over Temp for Oil and Water, Low Batt Voltage, etc).

The dash is a bit larger which assists my old eyes better. It is mounted behind the steering wheel (open top). When you have time to actually look at the data while driving, the wheel will be straight up anyway.

Dave and Ellen have been fantastic answering my newbie questions and helping me learn how to use the system.

This set-up would work great for the F600.
