    Default 32/36 carb update question

And so it goes. In my parts inventory that came with the car are a bunch of bodies and carb tops. One of the tops has a spaghetti maze of brass tubes with the ends coming down through the casting post. What is this? The previous owner converted the car to a solo car so I am pretty sure this "maze" top was from it's road racing days. What would be a middle of the road main jet size be? Are there replaceable air correction jets. This engine is an Ivey from 15 years ago. Any carb help appreciated. This will be Vintage/club Ford.

Not sure on the FFs, but on the FCs the intake runners don't all flow the same, so those tubes can be bent to direct enrichment into the flow field such that it ends up in the correct cylinders to optimize EGT.

    Default Dump Tubes

Those are "dump tubes". Many engine builders use them. An easy way to determine if your FF carb has been prepared for racing. It is my understanding that the direction of the tubes can be adjusted to maximize the top end HP on the dyno. I have seen them in different sizes. Not sure of the exact method they improve HP. I assume they dump fuel into the carb choke at the top end of the rev range.

    Cheers, Joe

Pooch, you are right, but there is more to it. The dump tubes add fuel from lower mid range all the way to redline. Look down your carb when you rev the motor from idle. The DGV jets start to lean out about 5500 rpm and the dump tubes add more fuel to keep the motor from going lean. Tube position is indeed a tuning aid to get the equal EGT.
